The university’s annual Dies Natalis brings together all students, staff, and faculty each year and invites the university’s partners. UGM’s Rector holds a speech to report the university’s achievements and share the minutes to the annual general meeting. The Open Senate Meeting commemorating UGM's 76th Anniversary held at Grha Sabha Pramana, themed "Healthy Campus, Pillar of Independence and National Resilience." This annual event served as a moment to reflect on UGM's journey in affirming the role of science that supports humanitarian values and sustainability. The presence of academics, alumni, and partners reflected UGM's strong bond as a shared space for service through knowledge.
To ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible resource management, UGM publishes an annual audited financial report on the university’s website that is accessible to the public. This report demonstrates how the university’s funds are allocated and utilized each year to support all activities of education, research, and community service. It is the university’s hope that making these reports open to the public fosters trust, allowing UGM’s many stakeholders — including students, parents, government, and partners — to assess the institution’s financial health and integrity.
To best integrate and monitor the implementation of the SDGs, the university established the UGM SDGs Center: Inaugurated on August 28, 2019, by the Ministry of National Development Planning, the UGM SDGs Center aims to synergize the university's activities in education, teaching, and community service to contribute effectively to sustainable development.
Gadjah Mada University provides facilities to develop students' talents, interests, potential, creativity, innovation, and identity as well as improve student achievement through student communities within the Gadjah Mada University environment. The university understands the significance of student unions and encourages their activities in the Rector's Regulation Number 20 2020. As mentioned in Article 5A, this gives students the right to establish student unions under the supervision of the Directorate of Student Affairs (Article 5A).
UGM has an Office of Sustainability within the University Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit. Based on the UGM Chancellor's Decree No. 1100/UN1.P/KPT/HUKOR/2024 on the Manager of the Office of Sustainability, the manager is tasked with implementing the UGM Sustainable Development Programme, strengthening the university's reputation related to sustainability; coordinating the mainstreaming of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the tridharma in university policy;
The University has made several efforts as a form of commitment that seeks to reduce organised crime. This has been regulated in the Rector's Regulation Number 21 Year 2021 (Article 10). One of the ways to regulate bribery and corruption is for academic staff to refuse gifts in any form related to work beyond what has been determined based on applicable regulations and/or contracts that have been agreed upon in advance. Article 10 states that, in ten sections of the Code of Ethics, lecturers are bound to uphold honesty and professionalism in carrying out their duties and the Tridharma of higher education.
The Tri Dharma of Higher Education includes community service as an essential part of a university’s contribution to social development. As part of its commitment to this principle, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) established the Direktorat Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat UGM (DPkM UGM), a dedicated unit responsible for managing, coordinating, and facilitating various community engagement activities. Through this unit, UGM seeks to integrate education, research, and community service in a balanced and practical way to support societal well-being, including through the development and assistance of partner villages.
UGM organises basic staff training followed by an assessment at the end of the training period. There was various material from speakers presented in the training, some of which were “Why Become a UGM Education Personnel?”, “Actualizing UGM Values at Work”, “Becoming an Employee with Character and Inspiring Change”. In the third material, there is a section that discusses staff adaptation to climate/environmental changes (sustainability) including changes in the environmental and social aspects.
The commitment of Universitas Gadjah Mada to inclusivity is reflected in the provision of accessible education and services for the entire academic community, administrative staff, and the broader public. This commitment is demonstrated through the development of inclusive facilities, the integration of inclusivity values into the curriculum, and the provision of specialized services through the Disability Services Unit (ULD) under the Integrated Service Unit (ULT).
