The Arjuna Team of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) won 1st place in Car Design in the 2021 PLN Innovation & Competition in Electricity (ICE) competition. The competition was held online from 7 May 2021 to 24 June 2021.
Head of the Arjuna Team’s Mechanical Department, Zaky Fadlurrahman, said that in his first participation in the 2021 PLN ICE event, the UGM Arjuna team successfully won first place in the Electric Vehicle Design & Prototype Competition category. There were 45 teams from various students throughout Indonesia from the D3 to S2 levels participating in this competition.
“We carry the concept of an electric car called “DARUNA” which stands for “From Arjuna for Indonesia”,” he said Friday (25/6).
Zaky said the competition organized by PT PLN (Persero) is aimed to encourage students to start innovating in developing environmentally-friendly electric car technology research. The competition consists of three categories: Electric Vehicle Design & Prototype Competition, Electronic & Electric Appliance Design & Prototype Competition, and Business & Community Development Proposal Competition.
He explained that the initial purpose of the Arjuna team’s participation in PLN ICE 2021 was to test and hone the team’s skills and knowledge in electric car technology and proper business development systems. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team that is continuously committed to developing and innovating electric car research, it can achieve the best results at the national level.
The Arjuna UGM team is an electric car team that actively participates in the Formula Society Automotive Engineer (FSAE) Japan competition every year that is held in Shizuoka Prefecture. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused this year’s FSAE competition to be limited to national-scale participants only in Japan.
Meanwhile, the Head of the 9th Generation UGM Arjuna Team, Inherenta Muhammad Amarutsli, said that the Arjuna team had the vision to become one of the best Formula Student teams in Southeast Asia and the world. Therefore, the UGM Arjuna team will continue to do innovative and active work in every research-based competition.
“Because of the positive results of this competition, we are increasingly determined to prepare for our main competition in the 2021 FSEV India and the upcoming FSAE Japan,” he said.
Inherenta emphasized that the Arjuna team will continue to be committed to evaluating and improving the development of electric cars in the next generation. In addition, participation in the PLN ICE competition also proves that Indonesia’s youth is ready to face the industrial revolution 4.0 in the aspect of environmentally friendly electric car technology.
