The Eco Engineer team, Mayradaffa Ayudya (S1 Mechanical Engineering 2019), Rakhmat Eko Saputro (S1 Nuclear Engineering 2019), Resa Wardana Saputra (S1 Chemical Engineering 2019), Reyhan Faiz Barley (S1 Physics Engineering 2019), and Rizal Qoirul Mustofa (S1 Mechanical Engineering 2019) won the Gold Medal at the Indonesia Education International Innovative Competition (IEI2C) 2021 organized by the Indonesian Federation of Publishers of Research Innovation (IFPRI).
The IEI2C competition was held online on 25 May – 24 June 2021 with 99 team members from various universities and high schools from within and outside the country.
Supervised by Dr. Ahmad Agus Setiawan, the Eco Engineer Team wrote a scientific paper entitled “Renewable Energy Technology Innovation: Floating Photovoltaic-Vertical Axis Wind Turbine As A Source Of Energy Treatment Seawater Using Reverse Osmosis Method For Solution Of Clean Water Problems In The Coastal Area Of Beach, Pacitan Regency”.
“The idea to design this innovation originated from the problem of clean water in coastal areas. The proposed innovation is a renewable energy source system based on Hybrid Floating Photovoltaic-Vertical Axis Wind Turbine as an energy source for water treatment using a reverse osmosis system,” explained Resa on Tuesday (13/7).
Resa explained that the use of the Hybrid Floating Photovoltaic-Vertical Axis Wind Turbine system is based on the potential of the Pacitan area for solar energy and wind energy. This innovation consists of 3 solar panels with a size of 1m x 1.6m and 3 wind turbines of the Savonius-Darrieus Wind Turbine type arranged in series.
He added that from the calculations, to supply reverse osmosis energy with a capacity of 1000 L with an energy requirement of 10 kWh/day, 1 Hybrid Floating Photovoltaic-Vertical Axis Wind Turbine module is needed with the generated energy of 12.38 kWh/day.
The Eco Engineer team hopes that this innovation can support the implementation of SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). In addition, it can also be a consideration for the development of other renewable energy in the context of optimizing electrification throughout Indonesia.
