UGM Archives held a virtual archive exhibition featuring 31 textual archives and photos through www.arsip.ugm.ac.id from 2 May to 2 June 2021.
Head of Information and Archival System Development of UGM Archives, Supriyanto said the exhibition was held to commemorate National Education Day (Hardiknas), raising the topic of “UGM in the Educational Circle”. In addition, the exhibition is held as a means of reminiscing about UGM’s journey in carrying out the Tri Dharma of education and inspire in pioneering education, including during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
“The archives displayed in this exhibition are archives from the start of the UGM establishment to occupying the Bulaksumur campus,” he explained on Tuesday (4/5).
He explained that this exhibition presents 31 archives, including 8 textual archives and 23 photo archives. These 31 archives are divided into 5 story parts. The first archive records UGM at the beginning of independence or the pioneering/forerunner of UGM from 1946-1949. The second archive is about the early days of UGM, which ran lectures at the Yogyakarta and Ngasem Palace complexes around 1949-1960. The third archive includes portraits of early lectures such as inspection activities, lectures, and others.
Next, UGM in the development of education outside Java through the Student Recruitment Program. Finally, UGM Bulaksumur campus presents various archives of the construction of the UGM campus in the Bulaksumur complex, one of which was the laying of the first stone for the construction of the UGM Central Building by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno on December 19, 1951.
“We are holding this virtual exhibition for the first time and we plan to hold it annually. We hope that through this virtual archive exhibition, we will be able to educate and promote archives as a source of information as well as a track record of the nation’s history,” he explained.
