Indonesia is a country with a variety of renewable energy potentials. To encourage the development of renewable energy in the eastern part of Indonesia, the Australian government through the Australia Awards program Short Course on Technology and Renewable Energy Policy 2018 recruited 28 renewable energy movers in Indonesia to get more to discuss technology and require renewable energy assistance.
The program is fully funded by the Australian government bringing 28 participants selected by more than 2000 registrants to attend 3 workshops and award projects. Selected participants from their backgrounds and working areas, energy representatives and decision-makers from SOEs, the government, private companies, the central government, NGOs, and educational institutions and they have participated in the Pre-Award Workshop on 7-9 May 2018 in Makassar.
Among the participants and speakers, there was one of the alumni students and lecturers of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Physics Engineering (DTNTF). Dita Anggraini (DTNTF 2013) became one of the representatives of the Bali province and Ahmad Agus Setiawan, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D (DTNTF Award Lecturer and Alumni of Australia) became a co-course designer with 2 experts from Griffith University in Pre- Course Award in Makassar.
In the 3-day activity, all participants gained enlightenment about technology and policies related to renewable energy in Australia and Indonesia with the Australian Consul General in Makassar, Richard Mathews. Participants also provided the opportunity to have massive discussions by releasing other energy from various regions and various work areas, presenting the Award Project which will be carried out after completing this program and implementing the knowledge gained from a series of short courses.
On the second day of the workshop, participants and the entire Australian Award team visited the official residence of the Regent of Jeneponto, South Sulawesi. Jeneponto Regency itself is being a pilot district for renewable energy in Sulawesi and is making budgeting efforts that encourage investment in renewable energy.
After visiting the Jeneponto regent’s official residence and inviting the friendly staff of all the local government officials who denied, the group continued to visit the Tolo Bayu Power Plant (PLTB) in the Jeneponto Regency. At present the construction of the Tolo PLTB is under construction and it is estimated that the 72 MW PLTB can be put into operation in August 2018.
This program is a form of cooperation between the Australian Government and the Government of Indonesia as a form of support for the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. Part of the 2 DTNTF UGM family members also shows that DTNTF UGM is ready to provide experts and the next generation of renewable energy in Indonesia. In the end, make all that is needed to achieve development goals and optimize renewable energy resources in Indonesia.
