The Faculty of Animal Science UGM collaborates with with Food and Fisheries Agency of Tana Tidung Regency to develop a livestock record keeping application, called Sipedet (Integrated Animal Science and Animal Health Development System). It is the first information system in Indonesia that helps collect livestock data in the area.
Galuh Adi Insani, S.Pt., M.Sc., lecturer at the UGM Faculty of Animal Science, explained that Sipedet can be accessed via a computer or mobile phone without having to open a web browser because it has been supported by a progressive web app feature. By using this application breeders can store various data about livestock, including data on livestock identity, livestock distribution, livestock stock taking, livestock health, and livestock regulations.
“We made this application because cattle farmer groups in Tana Tidung are spread distantly. Reporting the recording results to the agency has many geographical obstacles and is not real time,” said Galuh at Faculty of Animal Science UGM on Friday (11/10).
As one of Sipedet developers, he said when livestock data has been inputted, farmers can find out the history of livestock automatically, locations of superior quality livestock (i.e., through the distribution of livestock groups linked to livestock ownership data), livestock distribution and mutation, farmer group locations that can be targeted for assistance, and automation of livestock certificates. Currently, the team is developing cattle ranking based on performance data that has been entered into the system.
Galuh said Sipedet would give benefits to breeders during the trading process. Buyer’s trust will increase because the cattle performance has been kept on record.
“The cattle data in the system will have a kind of ID card with a QR code. When scanned, the QR code will immediately lead to livestock performance data. So, breeders only need to bring a cattle certificate to be scanned for the QR code when selling the cattle,” he said.
The app will also ease business permit arrangement. All kinds of data to be printed have been formatted and standardized. The system basically can be used to record all types of livestock to provide information on the market prices for livestock products. Meanwhile, recording is particularly intended for cows because they have a relatively longer age range compared to goats or chickens.
There are several main features in Sipedet, namely Sikambing (Recording Development Information System), Sisapi (Service and Distribution Information System), Siopname (Stock Opname Information System), Sidomba (Goods Documentation Information System), Sikawan (Livestock and Health Licensing Service Information System) Animals), and Sipudang (Legislation Information System).
The software was introduced by Ir. Nanung Agus Fitriyanto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., representative from Community Service Director and Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science in Tana Tidung on Thursday (3/10). The team from the faculty— Ir. Nanung Agus Fitriyanto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., Galuh Adi Insani, S.Pt., M.Sc., and Jati Pikukuh, Amd—also provided a brief training on using the app. The app was later used to assess the selection of superior cows and outstanding farmer groups.
