UGM RSA Provides Special Vaccination Facilities for People with Disabilities

UGM Academic Hospital (RSA), Puro Pakualaman, TNI, TP PKK DIY, Sonjo Movement, and Keluarga Alumni Teladan Yogyakarta (KATY) collaborated to hold a mass vaccination for people with disabilities and the public on Saturday (11/9). Director of Medical and Nursing Services at UGM RSA, Ade Febrina L. revealed that 366 participants participated in the vaccination, with 13 participants from people with disabilities. The other 353 participants were from the general public.

“Participants vary in the types of disabilities, ranging from physical disabilities to special groups for Down syndrome,” said dr. Ade, Saturday (18/9).

The vaccination uses two methods. The first method is vaccination in a tent that is accessible to everyone. The second method is a drive-thru directed to the UGM RSA specifically for people with disabilities. This policy is nothing but done to reduce the potential for crowds and provide special access to people with disabilities.

Ade added that UGM RSA also provides semi-drive-thru services for people with disabilities. They are picked up and sent back using accommodation/ambulances from the UGM RSA. Screening and vaccination are carried out directly on participants with disabilities without the need to get off the ambulance.

“The obstacle for the disabled is the accessibility of the vaccine, and most disabled people are also worried about their condition and whether it is safe to be vaccinated. What if there is an Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI)? What should we do if there is an AEFI,” explained Dr. Ade.

Therefore, participants with disability are directed directly to the UGM RSA, which has health facilities that can accommodate vaccines for special conditions.

“With special vaccinations for people with disabilities (hopefully), it will help them. In addition, the AEFI for the Covid-19 vaccine is guaranteed by the Ministry of Health so that people with disabilities don’t have to worry,” he explained.

As is known, vaccination activities at the UGM RSA are continuing. RSA UGM is still working with the TNI to distribute vaccines. UGM RSA is open every Monday-Thursday for the Covid-19 vaccination.

Registration of vaccinations can be done on the spot, especially for patients with certain comorbidities, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and people who have difficulty accessing the registration via a link / online.
