Minister of Health Appreciates the Implementation of Drive-Thru Vaccination at UGM

The Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, expressed his appreciation to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) for implementing a vaccination program for 2,000 UGM students and staff.

The Minister of Health conveyed this during a visit to the vaccination site at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM on Saturday (31/7). The vaccination program was held in collaboration between UGM and the Indonesian National Police for two days, 31 July and 1 August 2021.

“Thanks to UGM for carrying out a vaccination program with thousands of participants. It really helps to achieve vaccine coverage on a national scale. The involvement of universities is necessary for supporting the success of the vaccination program in the country,” he said.

The Minister of Health also appreciated that the drive-thru vaccination program ran smoothly and there were no big crowds.

“There have been many drive-thru vaccinations. The one at UGM ran neatly. There are not many crowds, and it was populist,” he explained.

From field observations, the drive-thru vaccination participants came with quite a variety of transportation modes. Apart from coming by motorbikes and cars, some participants were seen riding bicycles and walking to the vaccination site.

Meanwhile, UGM Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets, Prof. Bambang Agus Kironoto, said that implementing the Covid-19 vaccination program for students and families of UGM employees is a tangible form of UGM’s commitment to supporting the distribution of vaccines in the country. Doing so would increase vaccination coverage, thus achieving herd immunity soon.

“From this collaboration with the Indonesian National Police, UGM has received 3,000 doses of vaccine. We will deliver 2,000 doses on 31 July and 1 August 2021 and the remaining 1,000 doses next week,” he said.

Vaccination for students and families of employees has been carried out in stages. Previously, 500 students of the UGM Faculty of Forestry received the first dose of the vaccine on 23 July 2021. On 24-25 July 2021 at UGM GSP, vaccinations for students and their families were also carried out. Two thousand participants attended the mass vaccination held in collaboration with UGM and OJK.

Bambang said that vaccine recipients are prioritized for students who live in the Yogyakarta area and those who must do activities on the campus such as practicum in the laboratory, PPSMB, and others.

“UGM will continue to seek vaccines for all staff. Vaccinations for employees, both lecturers and staff, were carried out several months ago. Next, we will try to give vaccines to students and families of UGM employees gradually until all of them are vaccinated,” he explained.

This vaccination uses a drive-thru method to speed up the vaccination process. In addition, it also minimizes the transmission of Covid-19.

UGM FKKKMK has also held a drive-thru vaccination program throughout July 2021 in collaboration between UGM RSA and RSUP Dr. Sardjito, which was intended for students and families of UGM employees and in the future for the wider community.
