Tanjung Lesung Banten tourism destination is a leading tourism location in Banten Province. However, this area has experienced a decline in tourist arrivals since the tsunami struck in 2018 and the earthquake in 2019. The disaster did not stop there. The people around the Tanjung Lesung SEZ are currently experiencing the same fate, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which is increasingly destroying the community’s economy. The work from home policy causes fewer tourists to come to Tanjung Lesung. Although currently entering the New Normal by applying health protocols, many tourists are still reluctant to come for tours.
The UGM SCS-CEL Student Team encourages tourism development through a program to increase the skills and knowledge of the people around Tanjung Lesung through online media. “We are working on various work programs, especially those directly related to tourism, and we convey them to the public through online media. Luckily, the local community is very enthusiastic about our work program, even though the signals sometimes come erratically,” said Rahmawati Istianing Rahayu, a team member of online SCS-CEL in Tanjungjaya Village, Panimbang, Pandeglang, Banten, on Friday (21/8).
This student from the UGM Faculty of Agriculture said that one of the interdisciplinary programs is the tourism promotion and local product development. This program involves three clusters in the UGM SCS-CEL team, the agriculture and sociohumanities clusters in charge of product branding and designing digital marketing of Small Medium Industry products. Meanwhile, the scientific cluster is in charge of mapping and building tourism websites. “The website contains various tourism categories, tour packages, lodging information, transportation maps, maps of health facilities, maps of lodging, and local products of the people in the Tanjung Lesung SEZ,” said Rahayu while mentioning www.bufferzonetanjunglesung.com as the website address.
According to her, the website’s existence is expected to help tourists who want to know more information about Tanjung Lesung tourism and superior products belonging to residents. “We created this website to promote tourism in the Tanjung Lesung SEZ with the hope that the economy of the people who depend on the tourism sector and small industry will improve soon,” she explained.
Although the online SCS-CEL activities had ended, Rahayu emphasized that the website management will be carried out by the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in Tanjungjaya Village and Citeureup Village. Previously, students had conducted online training related to product branding, website branding, and website operation training.
