Bimasakti Racing Team UGM won a proud achievement in the international competition event at Formula Student SAE Australasia 2020. In the competition held on December 11-16, 2020, the Bimasakti Team managed to bring home an award in the form of third place in the Business Event Category. This achievement made them the only team from Indonesia to receive the award.
In the Formula Student SAE Australasia 2020 event, the Bimasakti Team’s struggle started from the Design Event stage. At this stage, the Bimasakti Team was required to present the car’s design that has been built in the past year. The final result of this stage made the Bimasakti Team’s car design achieve the top 9 positions with 112.64 points.
The Bimasakti Team’s struggle was continued to the next stage, namely Cost Event. At this stage, the Bimasakti Team was required to present an effective car manufacturing process with minimal costs. The final result of this stage shows that the Bimasakti Team managed to get into the top 4 positions with 82 points and is only 3 points adrift of the top 3 positions.
Then, the Bimasakti Team entered the Business Event stage. At this stage, the UGM Bimasakti Team raised a theme that aims to revolutionize the formula racing industry in Indonesia. The main idea brought by the Bimasakti Team was to provide an academy for young racers and engineers, especially for the FSAE team and Mechanical Engineering students in Indonesia. In this stage, the Bimasakti Team managed to bring home the 3rd place award. This award made it the top 5 overall in the SAE Australasia 2020 Formula Student international competition.
Iqbal Faishal, captain of the 10th generation Bimasakti Team, revealed that the team’s achievements this year resulted from the hard work of all team members who had prepared everything for approximately one year. In addition, this achievement proves that the Bimasakti Team can still make achievements amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are preparing for a better car this year, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic. The team also had to prepare many things from various sectors, from presentation materials to the facilities used for the smooth running of the Formula Student SAE 2020 race, which was held online. In addition, we also compete with participants from various other foreign student teams, such as Australia, India, Poland, and other countries,” said the 2017 UGM Mechanical Engineering student on Sunday (27/12).
Iqbal was also grateful for the support given by various parties to the UGM Bimasakti Team. According to him, thanks to this support, he and his teammates worked with dedication, struggled, and endured a long process to achieve this victory.
“The achievements that have been obtained from this competition are expected to be a stepping stone for the Bimasakti Team to continue to excel and earn more awards. Of course, this is nothing but to make the name of the alma mater and Indonesia proud,” he concluded.
