First in Indonesia, Moisturizing Lotion with Vitamin D Produced by UGM Researchers

UGM launched body lotion with Vitamin D, namely Dermavita DHC. A research team developed the product from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) and Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, consists of Prof. Dr. dr. Hardyanto Soebono, Sp.KK (K)., FINSDV, FAADV., Dr. med. dr. Retno Danarti, Sp.KK (K)., FINSDV, FAADV., Dr. rer. nat. Ronny Martien, M.Sc., and Dr. apt. Adhyatmika, M.Biotech. This research also collaborated with an industrial partner, PT. Dion Farma Abadi.

Hardyanto revealed that Dermavita DHC is the first moisturizing product in this country enriched with vitamin D, precisely provitamin D3, to solve dry skin problems.

“This is the foremost moisturizing product in Indonesia that is enriched with provitamin D3,” he explained at the launch of the product in a series of New Discovery of Moisturizer webinars on Wednesday (4/11).

He stated that Dermavita DHC also becomes a moisturizer lotion that provides an alternative for the society who wants to fulfill their vitamin D need. As known, the source of vitamin D is frequently obtained from sun exposure. A smaller part can be obtained from food and supplements.

“We try to provide a topical intake of vitamin D which targets targeted cells,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Retno added that the innovative product of moisturizer product from her team’s contained 7-Dehydrocholesterol (pro-V D3) combined with a skin barrier matrix (ceramide, fatty acid, cholesterol). Combining the two can help improve skin hydration, reinforce the skin barrier, and help treat atopic dermatitis.

She continued that Vitamin D is one of the active substances that have a mechanism of action in the process of dry molecular skin. Clinically the addition of topical vitamin D can increase moisture in dry skin. Accordingly, it can subdue dry skin problems that are cosmetically disturbing and reduce irritants and allergens’ penetration.

CEO of PT. Dion Farma Abadi, dr. Fredy Setyawan mentioned that besides containing provitamin D3 and skin barrier, Dermavita DHC also includes squalane and shouting botanical. People in tropical areas with low humidity are also safe and can use it because it is also non-comedogenic.

“So the concept is it can be applied as a body lotion, moisturizer as well as a treatment,” he explained that the product is safe for use by children.

The procedure to use this product is to apply enough lotion evenly to the desired body part. Use 1-2 times a day or as advised by your doctor.

The Central Board of Dermatology Specialist Association (Perdoski), Dr. dr. M. Yulianto Lisytawan, Sp.KK (K)., FINSDV, FAADV., congratulated UGM and PT. Dion Farma Abadi for producing moisturizing products that contain provitamin D3. In the future, he also encourages a model of cooperation between academia and business to make quality products that can be beneficial to the community.

“Congratulations! Hopefully, this kind of cooperation can be evolved in other education centers. This action is important to popularize dermatology and venereology research products in Indonesia,” he explained.

Vice-Rector UGM also conveyed appreciation for Cooperation and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LLM., for the launch of Dermavit DHC. He said that this initial discovery always becomes the main hope of UGM because the university’s success is measured in practical terms by how many research products were successfully produced.

“Congratulations on the newest innovation of the Dermavit DHC product, and of course, we are waiting for other products,” he said.
