625 PKM Teams Compete Online in PIMNAS 2020

A total of 625 Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams from 101 universities in Indonesia competed for the champion in the 33rd National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS), which took place on 26-28 November 2020.

Vice-Chairman of the 33rd PIMNAS, drg. Hendri Susanto, M.Kes., Ph.D., said that the implementation of PIMNAS this time was different from previous years because it was carried out amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The entire student team took part in the online competition. Meanwhile, the jury conducted an offline assessment at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) campus while still implementing health protocols.

“So, there are 31 presentation classes whose assessment is at Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM and for the poster category at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM. Meanwhile, the student team will present online,” he explained during the 33rd PIMNAS Press Conference at FEB UGM on Thursday (26/11).

Secretary of the 33rd PIMNAS Jury, Prof.Dr.Ir. Nuni Gofar, M.S., said that this year’s PIMNAS activity carried the theme Forging a Creative and Independent Generation in a Pandemic Period with the Spirit of an Independent Campus. The participants were 2,918 students divided into 625 PKM teams from 101 state and private universities in various regions in Indonesia. Before entering PIMNAS, all participants had to go through a series of selection processes, from proposal selection to monitoring and evaluation.

In 2020, there were 57,723 proposals from PKM in 5 fields, namely PKM for Exact Research and Social Humanities, PKM for Entrepreneurship, PKM for Community Service, PKM for Applied Technology, and PKM-Creative Initiative. Of these, 3,789 proposals succeeded in obtaining program implementation grants from the Ministry of Education and Culture, and 545 of them successfully passed to PIMNAS.

Meanwhile, from the Written Idea PKM and the Constructive Futuristic Idea PKM, there were 7,083 proposals submitted, and 436 of them succeeded in obtaining program implementation funds. After going through the following selection process, 80 proposals were submitted to PIMNAS.

“In total, there are 625 groups that compete in PIMNAS from 5 fields of PKM and PKM Written Ideas, as well as PKM Constructive Futuristic Ideas,” he said.

Meanwhile, the assessment was carried out by 95 judges. The evaluation was carried out offline by 75 judges, and 20 others conducted an online evaluation.

“Later on, in each field, we will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals as well as favorite champions with a total of 217 medals,” he explained.

The Head of the Working Group for Higher Education at the Puspresnas Kemdikbud RI, Yas Ahmad Adha, said an increase in the number of PKM teams passed to PIMNAS year to year. Previously successively, in 2018 and 2019 passed 420 PKM teams and 480 PKM teams. Then, in 2020, even though amid a pandemic, the number that passed PIMNAS rose to 625 PKM teams.

“This is extraordinary with the Covid-19 situation, which is only at home, lectures also take place online, but the creativity of students is extraordinary,” he explained.

The same thing was conveyed by the Sub Coordinator of Reasoning, Creativity, Interest and Student Talent, Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Fajar Priyautama. In the implementation of this year’s PIMNAS managed to pass the title of the most proposals in recent years. However, with the current pandemic conditions, the assessment is carried out differently than usual. Previously, the outputs produced from PKM were in the form of activities, products, and research results. However, due to the external pandemic conditions, it was manifested in a different form.

“For example, for PKM Community Service, the output is in the form of preparing guidebooks and PKM Research in the form of a narrative review,” he explained.
