UGM accepts 492 Students from Other Universities in Permata Sakti Program

UGM accepts as many as 492 students from 29 Indonesian universities through the Nusantara Student Exchange program-Credit Transfer System with Information Technology (Permata-Sakti) 2020. They will conduct lectures at UGM online for one semester.

UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., Ph.D., ASEAN., Eng., said that students’ interest to take the Permata course at UGM was relatively high. More than 600 students from various universities have registered to take part in the Permata program at UGM. Furthermore, from the selection process, 492 students were selected. This number far exceeds the quota plan provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which initially only 280 students.

“We would like to thank the rectors who have sent their students to UGM. Hopefully, in the coming years, more and more students and universities will join the Permata program at UGM,” he said at the online welcoming and orientation event for the Permata Sakti 2020 program students on Thursday (1/1).

Panut said that in the Permata program, which was the first time UGM was participating, his party sent 19 students to 23 partner universities. He did not forget to express his gratitude to the rectors of partner universities who were willing to accept their students to join the Permata Sakti program.

In this Permata Sakti program, UGM offers seven courses spread across seven faculties. The offered courses that students can take are cross-disciplinary, universal, contemporary, open to work insights, and reflect UGM’s nationalist values ​​and Indonesia’s diversity.

The seven courses are Environmental Science (Faculty of Biology), Entrepreneurship (Faculty of Economics and Business), Multiculturalism (Faculty of Cultural Sciences), Digital Intelligence (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Geographic Information Systems (Faculty of Geography), Legal Recognition of Indigenous Peoples (Faculty of Law), and Apiculture (Faculty of Animal Science).

Meanwhile, the Director-General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN., Eng., in his speech said that the goal of the Permata Sakti program is to produce superior human resources who love diversity and create a developed Indonesia. This program is part of the Merdeka Campus policy for all universities in the country.

Through this program, he continued, it is expected that it can increase national insight, integrity, solidarity, and national adhesiveness among Indonesian students. In addition, preparing national leaders with national character. This program also provides opportunities for students to experience and take advantage of educational facilities and the academic atmosphere at other universities.

Nizam said that the Permata Sakti program, which was held since 2014, was also aimed at reducing disparities between universities throughout Indonesia. Not only that, this program is part of an effort to support the implementation of the Independent Learning-Independent Campus policy.

“The challenge of this year’s Permata Sakti program was carried out amid a pandemic so that it was held online. Hopefully, the pandemic will subside soon so that it can be implemented directly,” he hoped.

In the event, the students also listened to Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A(K) presentation about the history of the establishment, the philosophy, and identity of UGM.
