Chancellor Inaugurates UC Hotel and Wisma KAGAMA to Facilitate Shelters for Covid-19 Patients

UGM Chancellor inaugurated UGM University Club Hotel and Wisma KAGAMA to facilitate shelters for Covid-19 patients on Wednesday (14/7). Managed by UGM in coordination with the UGM Academic Hospital (RSA), these shelters can accommodate up to 202 patients.

“Seeing the unavailability of hospital rooms and many people not getting the necessary medical services, we think about how to prevent something like this from happening. We intend to reduce the burden on hospitals in accommodating patients,” said UGM Chancellor Prof. Panut Mulyono.

Hotel University Club provides 71 rooms with two beds each, while Wisma Kagama provides 30 rooms with two beds each. In addition, there are several other facilities, such as an observation room and a dressing room for personal protective equipment for medical personnel.

Panut explained, Covid-19 patients undergoing isolation will be monitored by doctors and nurses who are placed in the shelter.

“Hopefully, by jointly making innovations in our policy of action, we can help our brothers and sisters who seek hospital services. Thank you to all parties for this good cooperation,” said the Chancellor.

Director of Medical and Nursing Services at RSA UGM, Ade Febrina L., explained that patients treated here first receive a medical examination by coming to the hospital or consulting via telemedicine.

“Patients must have been examined, either at the RSA or via telemedicine which can be accessed online,” she said.

She explained these shelters would help hospitals, which currently have limitations in providing facilities to treat patients, and would hopefully reduce cases of patients who die because they do not have time to get help at health facilities.

“We need a shelter that can accommodate services for patients. Thanks to UGM for accommodating the opening of this shelter,” said Ade.

She added that the shelters are managed by following the financing scheme determined by the government. The Sleman Health Office will claim the cost of health services. Thus, patients do not pay the treatment to UGM.

Previously, UGM had also opened several shelters for Covid-19 patients at facilities owned by UGM, such as the Darmaputera Baciro Dormitory, Wanagama, and the Center for Agrotechnology Innovation (PIAT).

What distinguishes it from the previously opened shelters, explained Ade, this one is managed in coordination with the UGM RSA, which will monitor patients.

“Hopefully, this type of shelter becomes a service that can be adopted in other shelters to handle people properly,” she said.
