The availability of health facilities has decreased due to a surge in Covid-19 cases. The number of room availability, oxygen, and medicine is worryingly limited. Currently, self-isolation is a wise option for Covid-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms.
“What often happens is that many patients come late to the hospital. This means they have been tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago but only came to the hospital after experiencing severe symptoms,” said Fithri Islamiyah S.R. from UGM Academic Hospital in UGM Update on Tuesday (13/7)
The first step that should be taken is consulting with medical staff. The thing to keep in mind is Covid-19 attacks the information system between organs. This often causes happy hypoxia in which the body feels healthy, but actually, the organ systems are not functioning properly.
“There are still many Covid-19 patients who are afraid to consult a hospital,” added Fithri.
The consultation aims to determine the condition of the body so that the actions given will be appropriate. With a consultation, patients with Covid-19 will get access to treatment that can support their body condition during self-isolation. In addition, the hospital and health workers will provide the right information and direction when self-isolating.
“After confirming the condition of the body and having received the right treatment, the patient should notify the people around who have contact with them. This is an effort to prevent further transmission,” she explained.
When doing self-isolation, Fithri explained that the condition of the body is very volatile. Thus, we must be aware of the body condition and carry out self-assessment regularly every morning and evening. Self-assessment includes recording oxygen levels and body temperature and evaluating the symptoms experienced. This action can also be a preventive measure that can help doctors take action when the body condition deteriorates, and the patient should go to the hospital.
“Currently, Indonesia needs emergency beds, oxygen, and medicines. When a person is confirmed having Covid-19, and their body is still fit, they should look forward to recovering,” she said.
