Universitas Gadjah Mada focuses on handling global energy issues through its impressive team, the UGM Semar Team. UGM Semar team developed two energy-efficient cars and competed in the well-known international competition, Shell Eco-Marathon 2021.
M. Rian Alif Madani, General Manager of UGM Semar 2020/2021, explained the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2021 competition organized by Royal Dutch Shell has a different series of competitions from previous years. It consists of the Global Virtual League – a virtual competition in the form of a league with a total of 5 (five) online competitions held from October 2020 to July 2021.
Rian explained that the first competition was Pitch The Future Competition. With a total of 273 teams from 56 countries around the world, the UGM Semar Team managed to become one of the best teams (TOP 5) for the Asia Pacific and the Middle East Region on topic 2, namely Net Carbon Neutral Vehicles mini-competition with Microsoft with the theme Track and Reduce CO2 Emissions from Vehicles.
The second competition is the Autonomous Programming Competition. In this competition, the UGM Semar Team completed all goals successfully, achieving the 6th best position for the Proto Semar Team and the 8th best for the Urban Semar Team in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East Regions. In addition, this competition is a Global competition on a worldwide level.
“Of the 200 teams that have registered, the UGM Semar Team has won 12th place (UGM Semar Proto) and 16th place (UGM Semar Urban) in the global competition,” said Rian, Thursday (15/7).
The third competition is the First Bonus Challenge which will be held in January 2021 and won 3rd place in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East Regions in the Bonus Challenge competition and earned an additional 20 points.
UGM Semar team also supports the Virtual Off-Track Awards competition. In this competition, the UGM Semar Team succeeded in making ten scientific essays.
The last competition was Virtual Technical Inspection. The Semar team won 2nd place in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East Regions in the Prototype category for the Battery-Electric class and earned an additional 946 points.
According to Rian, the Semar Team and its two teams finally managed to rank 24 in the world (ranked 13 in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East Regional) (Semar Proto UGM) and 42 in the world (ranked 21 Asia Pacific and Middle East Regional) (UGM Semar Urban) in the Shell Eco-marathon Season 2021 Virtual Program competition. More than 235 teams from various countries participated in the competition. They were divided into three regions: Europe and Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
“The UGM Semar team is very grateful for these achievements so far, thanks to everyone’s help and prayers. However, this is not the end. We are very enthusiastic, and we hope that the UGM Semar Team can continue to achieve, maintain, and even improve new achievements both nationally and internationally and make Universitas Gadjah Mada proud,” said Rian.
Currently, the UGM Semar Team is also preparing for the 2021 KMHE competition.
