On this visit, the students held socialization about COVID-19, such as how to wash their hands and how to properly wear and remove masks, including an explanation of the New Normal Era. Socialization was carried out by conducting a poster exhibition and presenting materials. These activities aimed to increase local community awareness and vigilance of COVID-19. Around 30 residents attended the event by applying the COVID-19 protocol.
On this occasion, students submitted the teamwork program results in the form of posters and short videos. The posters created by students of the Hargotirto Unit Team included infographics posters and posters related to preventing hoax on COVID-19. Students took advantage of this community service program moment to move actively as agents for providing reliable and accurate information for the community related to COVID-19. Videos made by students included contents on how to make disinfectant fluids and tutorial videos for making cloth masks. Infographic posters and videos had also been distributed online through the WhatsApp group for residents of Hargotirto Village and uploaded to the Hargotirto Village COVID-19 response website (https://hargotirto.kkn-ppmugm.com/) created by the students as an information center about COVID-19. This website provides independent screening facilities, maps of the distribution of People under Surveillance, Patient under Supervision, and positive patients in Yogyakarta Province that residents can see every day.
Besides, the YO 0239 Unit students provided positive activities to get rid of boredom while staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as children’s story podcasts, video invitations to exercise, online store counseling, education on rainwater as clean and drinking water, and writing competition for Hargotirto residents. The students also held various online classes, including Korean language classes, English classes, mathematics classes, and physics classes.
Since the beginning of the program, students have been raising funds in various ways, such as distributing posters and holding online game competitions. From this effort, more than 5 million rupiahs was collected in 3 weeks. The funds collected are used to provide aids in the form of 57 basic food packages and health equipment (hand-sanitizer, thermogun, and masks). These aid recipients are residents of Hargotirto Village who have been sent home for more than three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Responding to this aid, Sukamto, manager of the Pule Payung tourist attraction, which has been closed since the pandemic, accompanied by the Head of Nganti Hamlet, Aan, gave his appreciation.
“Thank you very much for paying attention to us. Thanks to the help of our student community service team, we are able to live in difficult times due to COVID-19,” said Sukamto.
