UGM is helping efforts to suppress the spread of Covid-19 through an application called Siaga Mudik. The application was developed in collaboration with the Central Java Provincial Government, the Gadjah Mada University Alumni Family (KAGAMA), as well as lecturers, alumni and students of the UGM Vocational School (SV UGM). The app is useful for tracing the travel history of travellers from Central Java in an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“According to data from the Central Java Transportation Agency, the wave of travellers have reached 320,435 people using public transportation, not including those who use private vehicles. The Mudik Alert application facilitates residents who are forced to go home in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Imam Fahrurrozi as the Technical Manager.
He said that the Central Java Provincial Government obliges its homecoming citizens to fill out the Mudik Alert application and self-quarantine for 14 days.
This application, he explained, can record the number of travellers based on their homecoming destination, residential address and stopover locations for travellers, as well as the health conditions of travellers based on symptoms of illness and the presence or absence of congenital diseases from travellers.
“Later on, whether or not there is medical intervention from the nearest health office for travellers, is also based on the information output from the application,” he added.
The lecturer of the Software Engineering Technology Applied Undergraduate Study Program of the Department of Electrical and Informatics Engineering (DTEDI) at the Vocational School explained that the development of this application originated from KAGAMA’s request to Vocational Studios and Techno Vocations to make the application in less than one week.
In the midst of calls for Work from Home, the team then coordinated online with the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, the Central Java GRMS Team, and the Central Java Transportation Agency.
“In three to four days the application must be completed, then perfected and released,” he explained.
The application development team consists of Abidurrahman Alfaruq and Wahyu Kemal, both of whom are alumni of UGM, as well as two students, Ilham Karyanto and Adjie Kurniawan. Apart from the team from Vocational Techno, this application was also developed with a team from Vocational Studios SV UGM in the aspects of graphic design, user interface, and user experience.
“From Vocational Studios there is Yusron “Tengkorak Film” Fuadi as Multimedia and Negotiation Manager as well as Lecturer in the Applied Study Program of Software Engineering Technology at DTEDI assisted by our alumni Wahyu Kemal,” he said.
To enforce data collection, the Central Java Provincial Government is also working with the WE Indonesia Community in Jakarta to prepare a Data Collection Management Information System for travellers through the siagamudik.jatengprov.go.id application.
This system, made as simple as possible, was developed to help trace everyone’s travel history, so that the government is able to describe Central Java’s preparedness and take wise steps in responding to the spread of Covid-19.
