The Rector of UGM launched the Health Promoting University (HPU) program in the opening ceremony of Lustrum XIV on Friday (19/7) at the UGM Hall.
This program is one of UGM’s efforts to create a healthy campus for all academicians.
“With HPU we design how to manage the university, carry out the vision and mission so that everything leads to activities that make us healthy both physically and mentally,” said UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU.
In his speech, Panut said that currently universities are expected to be able to promote healthy living behavior and healthy environment in the campus.
The HPU initiative is expected to encourage the development of a healthy lifestyle starting from the campus environment and ultimately a wider impact on society.
“Hopefully in the future, with a healthy environment, healthy lifestyle, and healthy activities, our health condition can be better,” added the Chancellor.
Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Prof. Dra. Yayi Suryo Prabandari, MSi, PhD. encouraged all academicians, especially lecturers and education staff, to participate in sports activities that are regularly held in every faculty or work unit and pay attention to food intake.
“Exercise every day if you can. Try to eat 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit every day and avoid eating fried foods,” she explained.
To create a healthy campus, UGM collaborates with Mahidol University, which represents HPU at the ASEAN level through the Twin Center program.
The HPU Twin Center Program aims to develop a pilot university between UGM and Mahidol University that promotes health at the ASEAN level, increase cooperation in joint publications and joint community services, and develop standardized campus health programs at UGM.
Through the development of the HPU Twin Center, UGM is expected to become a center of excellence for a healthy campus. Thus, UGM can improve best practices and university networks that promote health in ASEAN.
