UGM students brought home six medals from the 2nd World Innovation Technology Expo (WINTEX) 2019 event held by Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA), from 9-12 October 2019 in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). As many as 1,100 innovators from 18 countries joined the event.

IoTanam is integrated as a precision agricultural technology equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to control and recommend the prevention of hydroponic and agroforestry-based plant diseases in real time.

Ahmad said they developed IoTanam following the concerns that extensive land clearance had caused deforestation in addition to the lack of agricultural lands. The platform has been developed with features such as mentors, water flow control and plant nutrition, recommendation systems, and automatic water and nutrition filling. IoT has been installed to control and monitor temperature, humidity, water supply, and water level in the tank. Meanwhile, Artificial Intelligence is to detect plant disease types and recommend for the prevention of diseases.

“With IoTanam, we can monitor agroforestry activities remotely and regulate water supply and humidity as well as soil acidity level automatically, even when we are out of town,” he explained.
