Being a modern-day Kartini means being able to multitask, having a beautiful heart, embracing everyone, and giving time both for the family and environment.
Head of UGM Center for Women Studies (PSW), Dr. Widya Nayati, stated this during UGM Update on Kartini Day, Tuesday (20/4).
Widya added that the role of modern women has changed a lot, especially concerning the development of information technology. “This makes it easier for everyone. Collecting data for research is also convenient during a pandemic. This is extraordinary for mothers who take care of the house but are still productive in writing articles,” she said.
Widya appreciates energetic and productive women by optimizing the presence of technology.
In the event, Widya also explained several activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of PSW UGM and Kartini Day 2021, such as a call for paper, a poster design competition, and an infographic design competition with the theme of Online-Based Gender Violence during the Pandemic.
“PSW UGM is trying to highlight what we need in the future and what other study centers have not done. Many things need to be fought for and improved, for example, violence. We try to explain on a webinar about online-based violence,” explained Widya.
PSW UGM also facilitates knowledge of violence, for example, by working with schools to create gender-based violence-free schools. One of the partners is SMK 7 Yogyakarta. Apart from teaching about gender violence, PSW UGM also asks students to design anti-gender violence projects and exhibit the results.
“This has many benefits because students will understand gender violence. In addition, it will improve schools and benefit the environment,” said Widya.
