UGM Opens Opportunities for Cooperation with the Provincial Government of Bangka Belitung

Universitas Gadjah Mada opens opportunities for cooperation with the Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding on education, research, resource development, and community service marked the exploration of cooperation between the two parties on Thursday (25/2) at the UGM Hall.

“We would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity to cooperate with UGM, and this is an extension of the previous MoU. We hope that the collaboration between UGM and the Provincial Government of Bangka Belitung can be further improved in the future,” said the Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Erzaldi Rosman.

He hopes that UGM can support the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government in developing regional potential in certain sectors through cooperation in the field of strategic research. Collaboration with UGM, according to him, is quite important to accelerate regional development and meet the decided achievement targets.

One of the developing sectors includes fisheries, which is specifically related to the technique of cultivating squid. The Bangka Belitung Provincial Government, he explained, had explored several cooperation opportunities in this field with several university partners in Indonesia and abroad, including one with UGM.

UGM can hopefully equip Bangka Belitung residents with relevant knowledge and competencies to be involved in regional development.

“We believe that when we get reliable human resources, there lies our strength as a region. Hopefully, UGM can play a role in human resource development in Bangka Belitung,” he said.

He further revealed that he is also working to improve the quality of BUMDes in Bangka Belitung. He hopes that UGM can assist in sending students within the Student Community Service program to work with the community and local government to solve problems in the community.

“It takes students’ role here. Before the students go there, we will provide materials and tell them about the community’s problems,” said Erzaldi.

On this occasion, UGM Rector, Prof. Panut Mulyono, welcomed the proposal from the Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands. According to him, several cooperation opportunities can be explored to bring benefits to both parties.

“We will provide any help based on our expertise,” said the Chancellor.

Panut also explained that UGM opens admissions for new students through a partnership route for regions that have a cooperative relationship with UGM, especially productive cooperation in various fields.
