Universitas Gadjah Mada received an endowment of IDR 50 billion from Dato Dr. Low Tuck Kwong for educational scholarships and funding for Masters, Doctoral, and Postgraduate Scholarships of IDR 150 billion, Covid-19 research funds of IDR 212 billion, and assistance for the construction of the Science Techno Park laboratory of IDR 100 billion from PT Philippines Antiviral Indonesia.
In addition, UGM also received an MRI grant from PT. Pertamina Persero for the UGM Academic Hospital, seven buses from the Ministry of Transportation, and four campus buses from an Honorary Broad of Trustees (MWA) Member, Airlangga Hartarto.
The donation ceremony was held at the University Open Meeting in commemoration of the 71st UGM Anniversary on Saturday (19/12) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
“Throughout this event, I noted one key word, which is that we can never be alone. On behalf of the UGM family, I express my gratitude for the support of all parties,” said the Chairperson of the UGM Board of Trustees, Prof. Pratikno, after the donation handover.
Endowment hand over from Dato Dr. Low Tuck Kwong was marked by the signing of the Education Scholarship MoU by the UGM Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M. Hum., LL. M. and Chairman of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center, Filda C. Yusgiantoro, S.T., M.B.M., M.B.A., Ph.D.
“Dato Low Tuck Kwong donated an endowment of IDR 50 billion for UGM educational scholarships, hopefully it will be useful,” he said.
On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Philippines Antiviral Indonesia, Mario Marcos, expressed his hope that the financial assistance provided can strengthen partnerships in advancing the academic field that impacts the global level.
“I believe that together we can take the opportunity in this pandemic era to accelerate innovation and contribute to the common good,” said Mario.
Besides supporting the development and implementation of the Tridarma of Higher Education through educational scholarships and research facilities, the endowment also aims to support infrastructure development that supports campus activities.
Campus bus aid is provided to support the development of a transportation system that can connect several locations around the UGM campus.
“As many as seven buses are pioneers, hopefully, they can be the initial development of the UGM campus transportation system and useful for supporting the academic community activities,” said Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi.
At this ceremony, the Mardliyyah Islamic Center was also handed over, which was built with CSR and environmental development donations from 25 State-Owned Companies (BUMN) and non-BUMN industrial partners. Representatives of 9 donors carried out the symbol of the handover of the MIC to the UGM Rector, witnessed by the Chair of the MWA.
MIC is designed as a place of worship and functions as a center for sharia economic activities, a halal study center, sharia guesthouses, and student apprenticeship programs, making MIC an inclusive and multifunctional center for Islamic studies.
