Center for Security and Peace Studies (PSKP) UGM again held a Webinar Series for its fifth event on Friday (11/12) afternoon. This webinar was held via the Zoom platform and broadcast from the Youtube channel of the Center for Security and Peace Studies UGM.
For this event, the theme raised by PSKP UGM was “The Covid-19 Pandemic, Social Crises, and Challenges for Exclusion: Insight and Lesson to Learn from Nigeria, Australia, and The Netherlands”. PSKP UGM invited several academic speakers from the three countries listed according to the theme. They were Prof. Kyari Mohammed (MadiboAdama University of Technology, Nigeria) Dr. Rachel Diprose (University of Melbourne), and Dr. Laurens Bakker (University of Amsterdam).
Dr. Muhammad Najib Azca, as the moderator of the webinar, stated that the theme was chosen because he viewed the development of the current pandemic situation which is not only a health and economic problem. He called Covid-19 a global health crisis that also caused various social issues in various parts of the world.
“In determining policies for handling and dealing with Covid-19, the government generally only looks at the majority of the community. There are layers of society usually classified as vulnerable groups who mostly exclude government discussion, such as the poor and minorities,” explained the head of PSKP UGM.
Through this seminar, Najib hopes that the public will learn from the experiences of each resource person in their respective countries with social problems. It is mainly about the condition of vulnerable groups due to the pandemic.
