UGM Museum officially re-opened on Sunday (6/12). It was after the UGM Museum Launching event with the theme “The New Face of the UGM Museum” held that night. This event was organized by the Faculty of Cultural Science (FIB) UGM as the person in charge of managing and constructing the UGM Museum.
Dean of FIB UGM, Dr. Wening Udasmoro, M.Hum., DEA., stated that this re-opening was a long-awaited moment since 2018. It was precisely after the UGM Museum received a Cultural Conservation and Museum Development (PCBM) grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture that year.
Wening revealed that this museum contains many stories, history, and memories from UGM. However, she said that was not the only thing he wanted from this museum. “The UGM Archeology friends who are responsible as curators have a comprehensive picture of the existence of this museum. That is not only making this museum a medium that explains the past but also the future,” she explained.
Sektiadi, SS., M.Hum., from the UGM Museum, agreed with this. He explained that since the pandemic emerged, his party has been collecting artifacts about UGM’s involvement in dealing with the Covid-19 humanitarian problem.
“This is in harmony as well as to realize the mission of this museum being established. It is to provide adequate information to the public about the noble values of history, development, and UGM inspirational works to encourage the development of the academic and broader community,” said the UGM Archeology Lecturer.
Lastly, drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Research and Community Service UGM, expressed her gratitude to the various parties involved in reconstructing the UGM Museum. She said that UGM cares about the development of museums because we can trace some of the memories of UGM and this nation there.
“Through this museum, we can see what kind of future we want. Museums are important as a vehicle for learning, researching, and serving the rich treasures of Indonesian knowledge. Hopefully, this will be our common practice that will not be interrupted even though we are no longer in this world,” he concluded, marking the opening of the UGM Museum.
