SEMAR UGM team continues to innovate in research on energy-efficient cars amid new normal conditions. They developed both cars and have competed in a well-known national competition, namely the Energy Saving Car Contest (KMHE) 2020. The online competition was organized by the National Achievement Center of the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and the University of Indonesia from 15 October to 30 November 2020.
KMHE itself is an energy-efficient vehicle competition designed by students that is open to various universities throughout Indonesia. At KMHE 2020, the number of teams participating in the competition was 110 teams from 74 universities. They competed in two categories, namely urban and prototype.
SEMAR team supervisor, Dr. Jayan Sentanuhady, said that at this event, the two cars launched by the UGM SEMAR team were the Semar Urban and the Semar Proto. Semar Urban is an urban category car that tends to be similar to a 4-wheeled typical city car with gasoline fuel and has an ergonomic driving position. Meanwhile, Semar Proto is a prototype car in the category of a low-power electric motor with a super-efficient controller.
“After passing the selection stage, the two cars from the UGM Semar team were declared to be finalists for KMHE 2020. Both qualified for each category, Semar Urban for the urban category and Semar Proto for the Semar prototype category,” said Jayan on Wednesday (2/12).
Finally, at the closing ceremony which took place on Monday (30/11), it was announced that SEMAR UGM team had won several titles, namely 3rd place in the urban category, body and chassis design criteria for Semar Urban. Meanwhile, Semar Proto won 2nd place and 3rd place for the prototype category with each vehicle design model criteria and body and chassis design criteria.
