As an effort to revive enthusiasm and creativity, the Youth Studies Center (YouSure) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM held the Indonesian Young Sociopreneur (Soprema) 2020. The implementation of the Young Indonesian Sociopreneur (Soprema) this time was slightly different from previous years.
The Covid-19 pandemic is a challenge for business actors, including young sociopreneurs. Therefore, the concept raised in Soprema is fresher, by organizing a virtual expo entitled Inspiring Millennials as Sociopreunership Champion. Furthermore, various business products from young sociopreneurs can be accessed at akmindonesia.org.
“Unlike in previous years, all Soprema 2020 activities are carried out online. Various adjustments and innovations have been made; thus, Soprema can always be committed to supporting the progress of young Indonesian sociopreneurs,” said Dr. Hempri Suyatna, S.Sos., M.Si, at Bumbu Desa Sagan Yogyakarta on Monday afternoon (9/11).
Hempri, as the chief executive of Soprema 2020, admitted that the Covid-19 pandemic had made economic and social business activities experience decline, so they needed encouragement to rise and compete again. This activity is expected to contribute to the academic world in solving social problems faced by the younger generation.
Despite the pandemic, Soprema’s activities, which are entering their fifth year of implementation, still receive tremendous enthusiasm from young sociopreneurs. It was proven from the number of registrants for this year’s competition from 25 provinces in Indonesia.
“Although it had not been able to exceed 2017, which reached 31 provinces, this year event reached up to more than in 2019. Twenty-two provinces attended this event. The farthest participants were from Papua and West Papua,” he said.
The 2020 Soprema series will be held from November 10 to December 4, including Incubation & Pitching on November 11-14, Soprema Talk on November 14, Virtual Expo on November 14 to December 4, and Awarding Soprema on December 4.
M. Najib Azca, Ph.D., the Director of YouSure, said that sociopreneur for social entrepreneurs’ inequality between the regions and the center is still significant nowadays. Meanwhile, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia needed social entrepreneurs to recover the economy from the crisis.
“Sociopreneurs from all parts of this country must be given opportunities since there is still an imbalance between the central and periphery areas,” he explained.
Soprema is a kind of activity that involves various areas. This activity is based on an affirmative policy. Sociopreneurs from all parts of this country must also be given a chance in this activity. This condition is due to there are still inequalities between the central and periphery areas.
