Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM launched the Laptop Lend Movement (GPL) program. The program, which was launched during the 65th Anniversary of the faculty, is a form of concern for the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Prof. Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, M.Sc., said that the launch of GPL was motivated by the initial conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. The situation where campuses were closed and online model lectures were applied.
Even though they have previously carried out digital transformation, the Covid-19 pandemic has made everything difficult. Students and some lecturers of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM also had difficulties at the beginning.
“Once the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we cannot deny that lecturers and students experience difficulties because of online lectures,” he said at the UGM Campus on Wednesday (4/11).
After running and evaluating in the previous semester, obstacles were found in the online implementation. The survey results show that one of the obstacles is gadgets or devices to access online lectures and final assignments.
“The survey results show that 250 students have limited learning tools. Based on these data, in the end, Fisipol created the Laptop Lend Movement, and faculties and alumni fully support this movement,” he said.
The dean said that up to now, 50 laptops had been collected. Some laptops are new, have been used, and laptops come from offices that currently implement a policy of doing work from home (wfh).
He added that the first phase of laptop lending had been carried out, and students have lent as many as 20 laptops. Now entering the second stage and in the process.
“Most of the donations are from alumni; some donate 1, 2, and 3 or more or by transferring money. The loan limit is one semester,” he said.
For those interested, the procedure for borrowing is by submitting to the Academic Division of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. After submitting, there will be a team that will verify. After it is approved, those who live in Jogja can take the laptop, and the laptop will be sent for those outside Jogja.
“Not only for the final project, but indeed the priority for those who are working on the final project. Data-wise, there are still many requests for laptops. For that, alumni who have three or more can share in this program,” he added.
