Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM held its FIRST online social entrepreneurship lecture on Friday (18/9). The lecture was intended to inspire UGM students to participate in solving social problems using digital technology platforms.
Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Prof. Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, said that through this social entrepreneurship course, students are expected to be more creative and innovative in generating new ideas in building digital platforms; thus, they can solve many social problems in society. “We want students to be more creative and innovative in solving the nation’s problems,” said Erwan.
In this first lecture, he said, his party invited several digital technology leaders such as Gojek, Bukalapak, Nutrifood, Plus, and the Founder of Gusdurian Network Indonesia.
Minister of State Secretariat, Prof. Pratikno, welcomed the holding of the social entrepreneurship course by collaborating with many CEOs of digital companies. He hopes that students who participate in these lectures can provide solutions to the nation’s problems. “We want young people not to be complainers but problem solvers on an ongoing basis,” he said.
However, he added, to be able to solve social problems, according to him, students cannot rely on the field of science that they are engaged in alone but must collaborate with colleagues with different fields of science. “Not only learning skills and knowledge but also building character,” he said.
Dyan Shinto Nugroho, Gojek’s Chief Policy and Government Relations, said digital technology could help prepare solutions to social problems in the community and even encourage the ability to master one’s skills quickly and embrace marginalized community groups the informal sector. “It was unimaginable before that Gojek could embrace many sectors that used to be informal, then with a touch of technology became formal,” he said.
According to him, Gojek continuously innovates first in developing new ideas in the development of digital technology companies. “Digital services for special two-wheeled transportation services start from Gojek and then food delivery with technology imitated by others, including payments with Gopay. In addition, we continue to improve service products,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Bukalapak, Rachmad Kaimuddin, said he also did not expect that the company he currently leads has more than 70 million users and can even embrace 5 million MSME players. “In principle, the intention is to provide a place where people can trade properly and make it easier for people to find goods,” he said.
On that occasion, he advised students on tips for leading a digital company to keep growing and developing. “The leader has to make people around us feel safe in carrying out the company’s mission. As leaders, we are close to those around us. Keep being a simple person. Don’t make your personal agenda your main goal,” he concluded.
