UGM once again deployed the KKN-PPM team in North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, specifically in Tanjung District. The team which consisted of 30 students had started their service since December 21st, 2019. They consisted of several clusters, such as medical, scientific, social, and agro.
The program they worked on while at the location was also based on the division of these clusters. Even so, the program is still based on the main theme that they are promoting, named “Community Economic Empowerment, Strengthening Disaster-Resilient Villages, and Disaster Risk Maps for Rehabilitation of Disaster-Affected Communities in Villages of Tanjung District”.
Dwi Umi Siswanti, S.Si., M.Sc., the team’s Field Supervisor, stated that this topic was continued from the previous team that had been sent to North Lombok after the 2018 earthquake.
“For the 2nd period of 2020 KKN-PPM, we plan to send another team to this location with a similar theme. However, the focus point is no longer on post-earthquake handling but on ecotourism,” she explained.
The main program undertaken by this team is community education and mentoring in the context of disaster resilience, health education for children and mothers, efforts to reduce child stunting, empowering MSMEs, optimizing ecotourism as an economic support for residents, and mapping the area. All of these programs are currently in implementation. The plan is that the program will end according to the team’s withdrawal time, on February 8th, 2020.
