UGM lecturers published a book entitled “Menjadi Gadjah Mada, Menjadi Indonesia” (Trans: “Becoming Gadjah Mada, Becoming Indonesia”). This book contains a collection of writings about the persistence and spirit of the lecturers during their time as students until they become lecturers today. The launching of the book was held on Saturday (11/23) at the Kinanthi UGM Dormitory, which was attended by students who live in the dormitory. The lecturers who wrote the book also came to share the experiences they had written.
Ahmad Munjid as the editor of this book stated that the process of making this book was only 2 months, from collecting the writings to printing. In total there are 33 lecturers who contributed to this book, including himself and Abdul Gaffar Karim as the editor.
Munjid said that the message of this book is that we are from different generations, hometowns, and family backgrounds, but after studying at UGM we have the same spirit; the spirit of Gadjah Mada which drove us to apply the tridarma of higher education.
“This spirit prompted us to dedicate ourselves to the welfare of Indonesia and to love Indonesia more. We became Indonesia,” he said.
According to Munjid, all articles in the book share similar patterns. Every lecturer experienced problems during their studies, including family, financial, and other problems. However, these problems did not necessarily become obstacles, but rather were a challenge for them to face.
“The challenges faced by each lecturer improve them a better person. Through these challenges, they are able to actualize themselves so that they can become the way they are now,” he said.
Finally, Munjid hoped that this book could motivate and inspire UGM students today. “This book can serve as a guide for UGM students to manage their college life, including the learning process, organizational life, and motivation. Therefore, this book needs to be spread wider,” he concluded.
