Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Safety Center for Occupational Health and Environment (PK4L) launched the Bantu application in collaboration with a startup developed by students. The app is aimed to ensure the safety and security of the academic community in UGM.
Bantu is an emergency service application that functions to connect users who are in an emergency situation with the closest PK4L officers in realtime based on GPS.
“Users just need to place an order according to their emergency needs, the system will automatically connect with the closest officer or hero,” said Ghilman Nafadza Hakim.
Bantu has 4 main services: security, medical, fire, and automotive services. Security services and fire extinguishers will be served directly by PK4L officers, while for medical services and automotive services, the initial handling is carried out by PK4L officers who will then refer to the nearest hospital or workshop if needed.
To use Bantu, users only need to download the application from the Playstore or Appstore, log in using a Gmail or Facebook account and enter the cell phone number to which the OTP code will be sent.
During an emergency situation, the user can immediately select the service needed, fill in a description of the incident and attach a photo of the incident, then send the report and wait until the system finds the closest hero from the scene.
“When the report has been received by the hero, the user can send a message to the hero or call him and the user can find out the realtime position of the hero,” explained the alumni of the Faculty of Philosophy.
UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng, IPU., appreciated the application that was developed by UGM students. This application, he said, is one of the means to support UGM’s efforts to increase the sense of security and work productivity at UGM.
“I am very proud of our students’ creativity. With this system, emergency reports at UGM can be carried out quickly and appropriately responded,” he said.
The same thing was conveyed by the Head of PK4L UGM, Arif Nurcahyo. For him, Bantu application is able to complement and accelerate the work of security officers. He explained that they work with students to provide education to PK4L officers so that they can benefit from this application and optimize emergency services for academics and communities around UGM.
“UGM as a public space also accommodates many people who do daily activities here. With the presence of technology, we get more enthusiastic,” he said.
Bantu is a startup developed from the Creative Hub incubation of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM in February jointly by Ghilman, Syahrul Mubarog, Stanley Heryanto, Aunisha Firdausy Rafi, Winston Wiradi Pangestu, Yusuf Yudhistira, Anfre, Endy Arfian, and Umma Amalia.
Currently, emergency services through this application only cover areas around the UGM campus. Apart from these 4 main services, Bantu also has supporting features, including emergency numbers for the Yogyakarta area, news around UGM, and Lost and Found service.
