Two UGM Teams Receive 2019 Village Development Grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education

Two UGM teams managed to get grant funds from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) through the Village Development Grant Program (PHBD).

Head of sub-directorate for Creativity, UGM Student Affairs, Suherman, Ph.D. said that the teams that received the grant were the Geological Engineering Student Association (HMTG) team and the Formasigen team from the Faculty of Biology.

“Out of the 11 proposals we sent, we received grants for two of them from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education,” he said, Tuesday (2/7) at UGM.

The proposal submitted by the UGM HMTG team was entitled “Assistance for Small and Medium Enterprises and Local Culture as a Village Development Program in Supporting the Integration of the Edu-Tourism Aspect ‘Geotourism of Bukit Petapan’” in Kebon Village, Bayat, Klaten, Central Java. Meanwhile, the Formasigen Biology team submitted a proposal entitled “Inagro-Village: Community Empowerment in Hargowilis, Kokap, Kulon Progo, through Integrated Cultivation of Superior Local Longan based on Agro-Tourism”.

One of the UGM teams who received the grant, Adib Fakhruddin Yusuf, said that his team empowered the community through integrated cultivation of superior local longan based on agro-tourism in Hargowilis Village, Kokap, Kulon Progop, DIY.

As the leader of the Formasigen team, he explained the background of the implementation of this program as a first step in building the independence of the Hargowilis Village community. Currently Kulon Progo is facing economic competition due to the construction of the Yogyakarta International Airport and the Menoreh Surgery Mega Project which have the potential to reduce the community’s economy.

“The implementation of the Village Development Grant Program is expected to help and encourage the economy of the community so that Hargowilis Village community can be independent and competitive,” he explained.

Hundreds of teams from various universities in Indonesia participated in this year’s Bina Desa Grant Program. A total of 90 proposals were successful in getting program implementation grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.
