UGM provides affordable university-owned housing for employees and low-interest employee housing credit programs for land purchase, home construction, or renovation.

UGM provides affordable on-campus student residences managed by the UGM Residence Office, with monthly rates between IDR 350,000 and 650,000.

UGM prioritizes pedestrians by developing an integrated pedestrian pathways that connect 420 buildings, bus stops, bicycle stations, open spaces, and sports fields across its 1.7 million m² campus. These paths are designed around three principles: ease of access, safety, and comfort/inclusivity.

UGM collaborates with local authorities to address housing and development issues, including Indonesia’s broader housing crisis. UGM also participates in a consortium with building material companies and engages policymakers to develop environmentally friendly prefabricated materials.

The Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) UGM serves as a Super Creative Hub and has obtained Green Building (BGH) Planning Stage certification under the national Green Building Standards (Regulation No. 21/2021). UGM already has 10 buildings certified under Greenship by the Green Building Council Indonesia.

Although UGM’s campus in Bulaksumur was originally developed on rural land and has no major brownfield contamination sites, the university actively rehabilitates areas with potential environmental risk.
