Universities need to highlight lifelong learning opportunities they provide.
Provide free access to educational resources for those not studying at the university.
UGM provides access for those who are not studying at the university through various platforms. Distance learning students can access online educational resources provided by UGM, such as UGM Online, FOCUS, online and offline library resources.
Free access to UGM’s library resources:
Book Donation is an activity from the library that provides opportunities for UGM academics and the public to share books with other members of the public. The library facilitates the collection and distribution of donations to the community in the form of libraries and learning parks.
The UGM Library provides services for users from outside UGM or the general public and students from various regions. UGM Library service facilities can be accessed for a fee at rates that are affordable for non-UGM community members.

In the Fablab-based open innovation agenda held at the FRC on May 31 2022, UGM emphasized open access to facilities at the FRC and the UGM FabLab to solve the problems of the Kulon Progo community.
One of the functions of PIAT UGM is tridharma services which are realized in the form of educational visits. In 2022, PIAT UGM has successfully received 49 visits from various levels. A total of 1,517 visitors were recorded, including 8 visits from government agencies, 16 visits from universities, 12 visits from companies, 5 visits from non-governmental organizations, and 8 visits from elementary to high school. The flow of the visit itself is to introduce the services, facilities and field activities that take place at PIAT UGM, as well as inviting discussions or sharing sessions to get feedback from visiting participants.
Free Access to courses leading to certificate:
UGM Online is an open knowledge dissemination program to provide the public with the opportunity to enjoy access to knowledge from UGM. The courses lead to certificates and are offered free of charge and with charge.
eLOK is a UGM’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) platform that provides free courses for students in other universities leading to credit-earning.
FOCUS UGM (FISIPOL Online Campus) is a MOOC platform built by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and provides a platform for the community and students to be able to learn about social and politics using independent and interactive hybrid methods. The courses offered are free of charge and with charge.
The Digital Intelligence class is open to the public and is free of charge, both for the academic community in all higher education institutions in Indonesia, as well as the general public who have an interest in the social and technological fields. Each participant is entitled to receive a participation certificate if they have met the criteria.

The collaboration between the Faculty of Biology UGM and PKBM Ibnu Hajar in the Sirahan village, Salam, Magelang involves the development of various community development projects. PKBM Ibnu Hajar offers various flagship programs, including Early Childhood Education (PAUD), Community Reading Gardens (TBM), equivalency exams for Packages B and C, and personal development sectors covering 13 different areas. The Sirahan community primarily consists of farmers with a keen interest in Javanese literature, leading to the formation of the “Lintang Panjer” community, which has published a book of Javanese poems titled “Antologi Geguritan.” the Faculty of Biology’s Library at UGM visited PKBM Ibnu Hajar to strengthen their existing partnership, focusing on enhancing literacy and educational programs. The visit underscores the Faculty of Biology’s Library’s commitment to supporting their partner’s development, particularly in strengthening literacy initiatives and fulfilling Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals in Quality Education through PKBM Ibnu Hajar’s innovative educational practices.
Host educational events at university that are open to the general public.
UGM is committed to disseminate knowledge and technology towards community through various programmes. These programmes are designed to be accessible for public. Some activities such as seminar/webinar, training, public lecture, seminar series, and summer course were given to students (non-UGM), teachers, farmers, and the general public in the community.
Seminar, Webinar, or Training:
In order to expand information about waste processing, PIAT held an open house to introduce Rindu. This activity is free, there is no charge so that people can easily learn about waste processing and network with other participants. A total of 75 participants from universities, government, non-governmental organizations, waste banks, nature lovers and other environmental groups joined this open house.
Training on organic waste management for compost, liquid organic fertilizer (POC), and maggot cultivation for teachers at SMK N 1 Salam, Magelang.
Borobudur is an ongoing topic of conversation, apart from being a world heritage site, this area is a priority tourism destination and has complex management because various stakeholders are involved and each has a relatively different mission. Issues of conservation, use for tourism and improving the welfare of local communities are three things that are at the core of the discussion in this seminar.
PSLH organizes seminars and webinars for the public
RCE Yogyakarta, Gadjah Mada University collaborated with RCE Penang (USM Malaysia) and RCE Tongyeong (South Korea) and carried out an online webinar with participants from several countries, more than 50 participants have taken part in this program online, Gadjah Mada University presented about SDGs4 Quality of Education, RCE Penang (USM Malaysia) presented SDGs3 Good Health and Well Being, and RCE Tongyeongt South Korea presented SDGs15 Life on Land. Discussions and sharing of experiences were carried out in this webinar, strategies for implementing the program were also explained so that the program could run sustainably.
A training for academics (students, researchers), MSMEs, and the general public. The training delivered courses on regulations related to increasing the use of domestic products, procedures for calculating the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), techniques and methods for calculating TKDN, practice of assessing and calculating TKDN, and presentations by participants.

The Sociology Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada is holding a Public Lecture series entitled “Social Policy Financing: Between Budget Politics and Technocratic Considerations”.

Seminar Series:
The public lecture “Application of Biotechnology: Viral Gene Therapy” was held in a hybrid manner and attended by 88 participants with the speakers being Fujifilm Diosynth Biothecnologies, Lee James Watson, M.Sc. Lee introduced viral gene therapy (VGT), which is a biotechnological breakthrough for treating genetic diseases such as zolgensma, spinal muscular atrophy, and cancer.

The Biotechnology Study Center together with the Biotechnology Study Program held a Public Lecture with the theme “One Health Perspective in Human Life” with speaker Dr. Aneta Afelt (University of Warsaw, Poland) and Prof. Dr. drh. Wayan Tunas Artama (Gadjah Mada University). Dr. Aneta Afelt presented the topic “Globalization and its Impact on the Risk of Epidemics in the Anthropocene”, while Prof. Dr. drh. Wayan Tunas Artama presented the topic “The Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) from a One Health perspective”.
FK-KMK UGM held Ina-MHPEC activities. This international conference is a collaboration with the UI Department of Medical Education and the Medical Education Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Unair, inviting leaders and educators at home and abroad.

PSSAT holds a short course during the semester break which is open to local and global students with a Southeast Asia theme

As an educational institution, UGM is responsible to take part in enhancing the skills and knowledge of executives or professionals in private and government sectors that would assist the country’s needs through education. Some examples include the certification program run by Faculty of Economics and Business which offers various programs such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner, Certified Wealth Management, etc. Center for Environmental Studies provides certified training for staff and professionals related to environmental issues such as environmental audits, environmental impact analysis, etc.

FISIPOL UGM Creative Hub organizes Talent pitching activities which have become the flagship program of the C-HUB Unit. Talent pitching targets young sociopreneurs from students to the general public, where the curriculum is designed using scientific methods that encourage critical and analytical thinking, which is expected to not only have an impact on profitable business development but also have a positive social impact on society.
The lecture “Bagimu Petani Kami Mengabdi” for farmers has been held by the UGM Faculty of Animal Husbandry since 2014 and has become an annual routine activity. In 2022, lectures will be held in 5 sessions with 2 hours of meetings per session every Friday.
Tourism Destination Digital Marketing Training in collaboration with Merdeka University Malang. The aim of the activity is to have basic knowledge of tourist destination marketing, be able to plan marketing, have an understanding of tourism market segmentation and be able to utilize technology for marketing tourist destinations.

Ad-hoc Training for Executives and Certified:
Tourism Destination Management Training in collaboration with the Borobudur Authority Implementing Body. The target of the activity is to increase knowledge and understanding of government human resources in the coordinating area of the Borobudur-Yogyakarta National Tourism Destination and its surroundings regarding tourism destination governance.
This activity is carried out in order to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “One of the goals of the SDGs is to ensure fair and inclusive quality education and increase lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Pharmacy
A total of 59 millennial farmers from Megeri Village, Blora Regency had the opportunity to take part in training at UGM. Participants came from Megeri Village, Blora Regency, which is one of the supporting villages for the UGM Special Purpose Area (KHDTK). This training is a manifestation of the commitment of the UGM KHDTK managers located in Blora Regency, Central Java and Ngawi Regency, East Java, to build sustainable forest management together with the surrounding community. The material presented includes agroforestry, processing of dry land under forest stands, types of superior grass for animal feed, housing and rearing systems for beef cattle, and analysis of livestock businesses using a silvopasture pattern.

One of UGM’s most exceptional educational systems includes student community service programs which are embedded within curriculum. This was conducted through KKN program aiming to develop capacity building of community including teaching and training activities in schools and community. One of the examples of implementations is students from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing as part of the KKN-UGM 2022 program become PHBS teachers at Nglanggeran Elementary School. While Faculty of Biology build School of Ecology for Community in Sumberagung Village.
Programmed Community Service:
Student Community Service (KKN) program is a program which is embedded within curriculum.
2022 KKN-UGM Period I Pathuk Unit Nglanggeran Wetan Sub-Unit students become PHBS teachers at Nglanggeran Elementary School during their work period. The student team works together to provide education to children. Education is filled with providing interactive material through questions and answers, animated videos and even direct practice.
The Biology Faculty together with the Animal Village in Kedung Banteng, Sleman pioneered the Ecology School by preparing learning modules on the basics of ecology for the managers of the Alam Agung Lestari Pokdarwis in Sumberagung Village.
This Assisted Village Program takes place with the aim of helping develop villages through exploiting the potential of the surrounding area. Since 2021, KMTETI members under the responsibility of KMTETI Sosmas have helped with the installation and socialization of hydroponics with the Women’s Farmers Group (KWT), checking reading gardens, installing batteries and installing solar panels. Socialization activities and hydroponic planting practices took place last year.
The “Kamastawa Sharing” program is a routine program carried out by the Javanese Literature Student Family. This activity was carried out at Al-Wahhaab Sinar Melati 11 Orphanage. Not only sharing donations, FCS UGM Javanese Literature students also provided education in the form of writing Javanese script, mocopat songs, traditional games, etc. This activity is important to introduce Javanese culture to children in an effort to preserve Javanese culture.
The KAPSTRA Community Social Division is holding KAPSTRA Mengajar 2022, part of the routine work program which in 2022 will be held in collaboration with the Indonesian Prosperous Learning Community (KBSI) which is located on Jl. Kalibawang-Sendang Sono.
Ad-hoc Community Service Programs:
The Biotechnology Study Center and the UGM Biotechnology Master’s Study Program together with the UGM DPKM held a Community Service Program for students at SDN Seloharjo and SDN Sukosari, Ngaglik District, Sleman. This activity has the theme “Raja Manta Education” (Safe and Healthy Snacks Movement) which invites elementary school students to pay more attention to choosing snacks to consume at school. Apart from involving students, the implementation of the program also collaborates with UMKM Niki Ulam, which is supported by the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, to provide various healthy snacks based on processed fish in the SDN Seloharjo and SDN Sukosari environments.
Assistance to the disabled community in order to increase awareness of the physical or mental health of disabled people and their families by the Biomedical Engineering Master’s study program.
A policy that ensures that access to these activities is accessible to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, immigration status or gender.
As stated in UGM Rector’s Regulation Number 16 Year 2016, Article 8, about the UGM Curriculum Framework, the educational programs in UGM are developed to be easily accessed by all Indonesian or international participants irrespective of ethnicity, religion, disability or gender. The policy was then renewed in 2020. As stated in UGM Rector’s Regulation Number 14 Year 2020 about the UGM Curriculum Framework, the educational programs in UGM are developed to be easily accessed by all irrespective of ethnicity, religion, disability or gender. They must provide ample space to become lifelong learners who are creative, innovative and think critically (article 7 point e). This policy is in line with the University’s Strategic Plan regarding university governance which is committed to universal principles: social justice, equality, inclusivism, and sustainability (pg. 22, UGM is a campus that protects unity, diversity and nationality).
