UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK) synergizes with Sardjito Hospital and UGM Academic Hospital held a drive-thru vaccination in July 2021.
Dr. Hera Nirwati, Deputy Dean for Finance, Assets and Human Resources of FKKMK and head of FKKMK vaccination, explained that the drive-thru vaccination was held to avoid crowds.
“We make sure that there are no crowds. Usually, there are many queues during vaccination. This time, they can move in their own vehicles. There are motorbikes, cars, and bicycles. Some people walk, but they also follow the track,” she said on Thursday (29/7).
According to Hera, the first vaccination in collaboration with Sardjito Hospital took place on 8 July 2021, with 122 first doses and 1 second dose of vaccines. The next vaccinations were held on 13, 15, 21, 22 and 26 July with 3,453 first doses and 18 second doses of vaccine. Thus, the target number of people vaccinated is 3,471 people.
“Sardjito Hospital targets 1,500 vaccinations per week at the medical check-up. In the presence of covid, it becomes rather difficult to access them, so the risk of being exposed to Covid-19 is greater. So, we planned to initiate drive-thru vaccination with the Faculty of Medicine. People who are sick can go to the hospital while healthy people can get vaccines at the Faculty of Medicine,” explained Hera.
She explained that FKKMK collaborated with UGM Academic Hospital to administer drive-thru vaccinations from 27-29 July 2021. There were 798 registrants (596 were present) on the 27th and 1,063 registrants (825 were going) on the 28th.
“We hold vaccinations on the 26th for the public in collaboration with Sardjito Hospital. We also provide partial vaccine opportunities for the public on the 27th. On the 28th, 1,000 vaccines are provided for all UGM residents or family members who share the same house, considering our principle of sak omah vaccine. This means that we try to give every family member a vaccine in one house so that everyone can be protected,” said Hera.
Hera said the vaccination program on 29 July 2021 was aimed for UGM students.
“Hopefully, we can help increase vaccination coverage as much as possible in the future to protect everyone and achieve herd immunity soon. We from the Faculty of Medicine collaborate with hospitals, both with the Sardjito Hospital and the Academic Hospital in distributing vaccines. We hope that they can provide their main services to UGM residents and the general public in the future,” explained Hera.
