UGM Welcomes Back 4,504 Online Covid-19 Care SCS Students

UGM welcomed 4,504 Covid-19 Care Community Service (SCS) students for period 2 of 2020 who completed their online service program for about two months.

The students were deployed in 178 locations in 27 provinces, 77 regencies/cities, 143 sub-districts, and 263 villages. It involved as many as 178 field supervisors (DPL).

Vice-Rector for Research and Community Service, drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D., expressed her gratitude and appreciation to students who carried out community service activities amid the Covid-19 pandemic. After returning from SCS activities, she hoped that students could learn how to adapt and innovate in the community and continue to solve problems in the community.

Ika said that Indonesia still needs many young workers, including students, to build the nation, starting with building the community. Through this SCS program or activity, students can implement their knowledge or expertise according to their respective fields to the community.

“Welcome back to UGM. Hopefully, the results of the SCS will continue to be developed,” she said on Tuesday (25/8) when welcoming online SCS students.

Meanwhile, the Director of UGM Community Service Directorate, Prof. Ir. Irwan Dwidya Prijambada, M.Eng., Ph.D., said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, UGM was still carrying out community service activities, but conducted online. The students interact with the community from their respective boarding houses and homes based online.

“Amid this pandemic, we focus on community health and economic resilience. In addition, it also helps students who have difficulty studying online during the pandemic,” he explained.

Irfan said that the online SCS received quite a positive response in the community. Even though it is carried out online, the presence and role of students are still felt by the community, the same as offline SCS. For example, ways to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and deal with hoaxes to post-pandemic mitigation.

“Initially, all of them stuttered about this online SCS, both students, Field Supervisors, and the community. However, over time everything can go well, “he explained.
