Pringgama UGM once again held Gladhen Jemparingan Gadjah Mada in 2019 on Sunday (27/10) at the UGM Pancasila Sport Hall. Around 120 participants took part in Jemparingan or traditional mataraman archery during the 70th UGM Anniversary or XIV Lustrum.
Ir. Cuk Tri Noviandi, S.Pt., M.Anim.St., Ph.D., IPM. as chairman of the UGM Pringgama community said the participants came from 35 Jemparingan associations throughout Yogyakarta. Each community sent around 3 to 5 people. In addition, there were also representatives from faculties and institutions from UGM.
According to Cuk, it was adjusted to the classes provided, namely the general and the class for UGM staff. He also explained that the classes were divided again based on gender. The participants with the best scores in each class also were awarded with high quality arrows.
This event was the second time it was held after last year. Pringgama was also not alone in organizing this event, accompanied by the Dewandanu Community from Maguwo.
Cuk said that holding Gladhen Jemparingan at UGM was an effort in preserving traditional culture. “This is the tradition of the mataraman area, the land occupied by UGM is also in the mataraman area. Therefore, we should preserve the culture of the place where we are,” he said.
He hoped this event could be held regularly in the future and in an even greater scale so students could participate too. “For that, we also need more support from UGM to preserve this culture,” he concluded.
