Rural Corner is a monthly seminar at the Center for Rural and Regional Studies at Gadjah Mada University (PSPK UGM), which is held every Thursday the first week, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sartono Room of PSPK UGM, Bulaksumur G-7.
PSPK UGM opened the opportunity to work together with various government institutions, NGOs, private sector, and other social organizations to hold joint seminars, especially those related to rural and regional development issues.
Based on government laws and regulations, BUMDes was formed with the aim of the welfare of the village community. This is reflected in the definition of BUMDes according to Law No. 6 of 2014 concerning villages, BUMDes is a business entity whose entire or most of the capital is owned by the village through direct participation from village assets that are separated to manage assets, services, and other businesses for the maximum welfare of the village community. In line with this definition, the spirit that must be owned by BUMDes is the spirit of social entrepreneurship to run businesses for social development and community empowerment. However, the reality on the ground shows that many BUMDes are oriented towards this goal, and are merely to make the maximum profit. BUMDes has abandoned its enthusiasm for social entrepreneurship and has turned to be a business actor who merely looks for profit.
The point is the establishment of BUMDes is not through careful study and preparation, only short term oriented, only profit-oriented for genuine village income. Other factors such as entering into a business with fierce competition. The establishment of BUMDes is only a mass top-down program or uniformity of the Regional Government, and BUMDes is developed with the acquisition of economic activities that are already underway.
