Collaborative Efforts on Water Security: UGM’s Partnerships with Local and National Governments

1. Faculty of Engineering Promotes Responsible Water Use Practices

The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada contributes to water conservation through the implementation of sustainable daily practices. The SGLC FT UGM building is equipped with smart water taps that limit water flow to 2.5 liters per minute, enabling controlled and efficient water use. In addition, the building operates a water treatment plant that processes grey water, producing treated water that meets quality standards for landscape irrigation. Through these measures, the Faculty extends the water use cycle within the area and strengthens its commitment to responsible water management.

2. Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Launches “Water Conservation” Program to Support Campus Environmental Preservation

The Faculty of Cultural Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada has launched the “Water Conservation” program as part of its commitment to environmental preservation and green campus development. This initiative aims to increase awareness within the academic community regarding the importance of conserving clean water on campus.

The program consists of several key activities, including the installation of water-saving devices across sanitation facilities, the dissemination of water-conservation information through social media and campus information boards, and targeted awareness sessions for teaching staff and cleaning personnel on efficient water use. In addition, the Faculty implements regular monitoring of water consumption through a transparent recording and reporting system. As an educational institution, FIB UGM recognizes its moral and social responsibility to model environmentally responsible behavior. The Water Conservation Program is therefore designed not merely as a campaign but as a long-term effort to foster sustainable behavioral change.

3. UGM and Banggai Regency Agree to Cooperate on Water Resources and Geopark Management

The Banggai Regency Government and Universitas Gadjah Mada have agreed to a cooperation agreement in education, research, and community service. The agreement is related to urban water resources; he said Banggai Regency needs this cooperation because it has enormous potential. This is important to overcome the problem of people who often lack water.

4. World Water Forum: Sustainable Support for World Water and Sanitation Governance

The World Water Forum is the largest international forum in the water sector involving various stakeholders in the water resources sector and has been held every 3 (three) years since 1997. This forum is attended by various countries from all levels and fields, including politics, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society, and the private sector. The Board of Governors of the 77th World Water Council, which was held in March 2022 in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, West Africa, has chosen Bali, Indonesia, as the venue for the 10th World Water Forum, which was held on 18-25th May 2024.
