UGM measures its low-carbon energy use by tracking both fossil-based and renewable electricity under Scope 2 emissions: in 2024, 5,285 GJ of its 71,989 GJ total electricity consumption was sourced from renewable energy.

UGM runs local education programs on climate through field-based training and online learning. This includes mangrove conservation at Baros Beach and MOOCs on climate change.
UGM runs a university Climate Action plan that is shared with local government and local community groups. The university engages in identifying responsibility for emissions and developing fair climate solutions at local, regional, and national levels.
UGM works with the government in co-operative planning for climate change disasters. Projects include disaster preparedness in Padukuhan Sompok, Bantul, and Bengawan Solo and Brantas.
UGM, through its Center for Disaster Studies and Center for Environmental Studies and community service programs, actively informs and supports local and regional governments on disaster risk, early warning, and environmental monitoring.
UGM collaborates with NGOs to advance climate adaptation and build community resilience, partnering with organizations such as the WWF, ACIAR, and many more.
UGM has set targets to become a carbon neutral campus by 2050 through carbon reduction strategies that cover Scope 1 & 2 emissions and Scope 3 partially.
