UGM ensures all new buildings and major renovations follow energy-efficiency standards through its Building Code, green building guidelines, and Green Team assessments, with certified learning centers featuring natural lighting, LED systems, and rooftop solar panels.
2024
UGM plans to upgrade existing buildings to higher energy efficiency by targeting electricity reductions, integrating smart systems and efficient equipment through its Building Code, and enforcing Rector Regulation 2/2022 as outlined in the 2022–2027 Strategic Plan.
UGM manages and reduces carbon emissions through a net-zero 2050 plan using the GHG Protocol, supported by electric transportation for Scope 1 and renewable energy systems, including 23 solar PV plants, for Scope 2.
UGM reduces overall energy consumption through Rector Regulation 2/2022 and a Sustainable Lifestyle Circular, which mandate LED lighting, timers, sensors, daylight optimisation, and faculty-level measures supported by campus-wide performance targets.
UGM identifies areas of highest energy waste through regular energy reviews, real-time monitoring via its BMS, building-level electricity tracking, and periodic audits and training led by the Directorate of Assets and the Center for Energy Studies.
UGM implements a divestment-oriented policy that avoids investments in high carbon-emitting industries, supported by sustainable procurement rules, green transportation initiatives, EV charging facilities, and expanded renewable energy systems to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
UGM provides programmes for the local community to learn about energy efficiency and clean energy through Energy Audit Training under the “1000 Cahaya” initiative and renewable energy education in the “Desa Energi Berdikari” village programme.
UGM promotes a public pledge toward 100% renewable energy by advocating fully renewable power systems for IKN, leading national and international clean-energy projects, and collaborating with government and industry partners to accelerate Indonesia’s broader energy transition.
UGM provides direct energy-efficiency services for industry through energy audits, decarbonization guidelines, professional trainings, renewable-energy studies, and collaborative workshops that help companies reduce energy use and adopt clean energy solutions.
