3.3.4. Sexual and reproductive health care services for students

Free Access

The Gadjah Mada Medical Center (GMC) is a medical clinic under UGM that focuses on providing comprehensive healthcare. All students have free access to GMC, which is open every Monday to Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The clinic offers a variety of outpatient services, general medical consultations, and basic specialist services, including for sexual and reproductive health. The clinic also offers Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning as well as ultrasound services for pregnant women. For students seeking more specialized sexual and reproductive health services, the clinic can refer them to hospitals for free under the national health insurance program.

The Faculty Medical Room and First Aid are health service units within each UGM faculty and in several administrative offices, designed to provide immediate medical attention for minor health issues and emergencies among students. It forms the first line of healthcare before referral to larger UGM health facilities such as the Gadjah Mada Medical Center or the UGM Academic Hospital. The clinics provide medication for menstrual pain and offer sanitary pads for students in need.

Charged Access

The UGM Academic Hospital is a university hospital under UGM’s management that functions both as a healthcare facility for the public and as a teaching hospital. The hospital has an Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, a specialized health service and professional obstetricians and gynecologists, to provide care for women’s reproductive health. The clinic offers medical attention for pregnancy, labor and postnatal services, menstrual disorders, infertility issues, and diseases of the reproductive organs. The clinic also offers counseling on sexual health, contraception, and menopause management.

UGM’s Health Promoting University offers a paid course on Sexual and Reproductive Health where students can learn about the concept of the human body’s reproductive systems, potential issues affecting reproductive organs, and the prevention and management of reproductive health problems. The course is available through UGM’s Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) portal and can be accessed here

“UGM has a Zero Tolerance Policy toward Sexual Violence”

UGM is committed to building a safe and inclusive campus environment. Our university has a zero tolerance policy towards any form of sexual violence, one that we make aware to the entire campus community. Sexual violence are not limited to physical acts but can be verbal, non-verbal, or even technology-based

In the event of such cases, the university’s Sexual Violence Task Force is responsible for handling reports, while prevention is carried out through multiple layers of efforts including education, literacy, campaigns, and spatial policies that ensure safety and comfort. These efforts are further supported by facilities such as psychological counseling services, campus security units, and safe houses for victims.
