Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) actively engages in educational programs and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable land management practices in agriculture for both local and national communities.
UGM’s Community Service Program, known as KKN-PPM, involves students collaborating with local communities to implement sustainable agricultural practices. For instance, in 2023, UGM students introduced an agrosilvopastoral system in Dieng, combining forestry, agriculture, and livestock to promote environmental sustainability and economic resilience.
UGM’s PIAT focuses on developing and disseminating sustainable agricultural technologies. It serves as a hub for research, training, and community engagement, offering workshops and demonstrations on sustainable farming techniques to farmers and agricultural stakeholders. An example of an activity held by PIAT to showcase the research results is the PIAT Agrifest
The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM conducts various programs aimed at educating farmers and agricultural professionals on sustainable land management. These include training sessions, seminars, and field schools covering organic farming, soil conservation, and integrated pest management. One among them is the learning a sustainable agriculture design for future farming.
UGM collaborates with governmental bodies and non-governmental organisations to promote sustainable agricultural practices. These partnerships facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology to farming communities, enhancing their capacity to manage land sustainably.
