UGM SDG 13 REPORT:
TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACTS
“KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION, TOGETHER WE ADAPT”
As a leading institution in tackling climate change, UGM has created a multifaceted approach that blends local education initiatives with research-driven collaboration. This approach is demonstrated by engaging in local education projects centered around climate change impacts, mitigation, and adaptation strategies. This includes disaster planning, a crucial aspect of preparedness.
One key example of UGM’s efforts is implementing local educational programs focused on climate change. These programs combine awareness-raising with practical skills development, fostering a well informed and empowered local populace. Additionally, UGM facilitates cooperative planning for climate-related disasters, promoting a collaborative approach to risk reduction. This collaborative spirit extends beyond the university walls, as UGM actively supports local and regional governments in disaster risk monitoring.
UGM’s commitment to climate action transcends local initiatives. The university collaborates with various partners, including NGOs, international research teams, and institutions affiliated with the World Bank. These collaborations focus primarily on climate adaptation strategies, fostering the development of effective management techniques and response protocols in the face of a changing climate. UGM leverages its interdisciplinary research expertise by assembling teams from various faculties, ensuring a comprehensive approach to climate-related challenges. UGM demonstrates its leadership in tackling climate change through these multifaceted initiatives and plays a crucial role in educating and empowering local communities.
