UGM SDG 11 REPORT:

MAKE CITIES AND HUMAN SETTLEMENTS INCLUSIVE, SAFE, RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE

"EMPOWERS STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES"

Tour de Heritage UGM

The UGM Museum’s “Tour de Heritage” program offers public tours to promote the cultural heritage sites on the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) campus. These destinations, including the Balairung, Grha Sabha Pramana, the ancient well of the Faculty of Biology, the Pancadharma building of the UGM Vocational College, and the university’s housing complex, all possess unique historical narratives that contribute significantly to the appreciation of arts and heritage.

Omah UGM, an educational platformere

Omah UGM, one of the buildings affected by the 2006 earthquake, is part of the Kotagede Heritage Area revitalization program based on 3K, Community, Craft, and Culture. Omah UGM is managed through cooperation with various parties to become a center for UGM cultural preservation and disaster mitigation training on cultural heritage. Uniquely, Omah UGM is historically located in the Kotagede area, the former capital of the Islamic Mataram kingdom in the 15th century, and is known to represent the ideal Javanese saujana. UGM has developed culture-based sustainability cities and communities as well as educational, tourism, and creative production facilities such as photos and videos.

“PROVIDING OPEN SPACES”

UGM fosters public engagement through accessible resources and facilities. The UGM Library offers a wealth of materials, including theses and dissertations, alongside scholarly writing guides and online databases. These support the academic community and allow the broader public to access valuable knowledge at minimal or no cost.

Beyond academic resources, UGM prioritizes environmental well-being by maintaining public green spaces. Parks like Wisdom Park and forests like Wanagama and the Biological Forest are open for all to enjoy, promoting public health and providing a connection with nature.

UGM’s commitment extends to preserving local arts and intangible cultural heritage. University art groups hold regular public performances, fostering cultural appreciation. At UGM, one can also find that the university actively supports initiatives like the Spice Cosmopolis Team’s UNESCO World Heritage nomination, a motion to safeguard local traditions and knowledge for future generations.

Overall Report for SDG 1 to 17

UGM annually reports its achievements in implementing “Tri Dharma” and its contribution to society through Dies Natalis UGM, which is conducted at the end of each year by inviting all academic staff and students as well as the university’s partners. UGM also publishes a Sustainable Development Report annually.
