UGM Participatory bodies for stakeholder engagement

The University has ensured and engaged the role of local stakeholders in the campus environment – including local residents, local government, and civil society representatives. UGM has provided a number of open access community services as a means of accommodating aspirations from various groups. Some of these are through programmes coordinated by the Directorate of Community Service, MSMEs, companies, and other partners.

Community service is one of the pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, in addition to the dharma of education and teaching and the dharma of research. UGM Statute as stipulated in Government Regulation number 67 of 2013 states that UGM has a vision as a pioneer of world-class national universities that are superior and innovative, serving the interests of the nation and humanity imbued with the values of national culture based on Pancasila.

Some examples are small and medium enterprises in Yogyakarta which are UGM stakeholders that actively engage with UGM in terms of capacity building of MSMEs.

There is a programme in the form of MSME fostered partners which shows that local stakeholders participate in university decisions. There are three fostered categories, namely the product innovation category, the technology application category, and the manufacturing category.
