Universitas Gadjah Mada has a non-discriminatory policy for new student admissions, where all admission processes will be conducted fairly without distinguishing between religion, ethnicity, race, gender, age, position, social status, physical condition, and economic capacity of prospective students, while still considering the potential and academic achievements of the applicants. This is clearly outlined in Rector’s Regulation Number 13 Year 2019 Article 3 Paragraph 1 concerning Admission of Undergraduate and Applied Undergraduate Programs and Rector’s Regulation Number 11 Year 2019 on Undergraduate Admissions through the Independent Entry Track, which also mentions special categories, including affirmative and special provisions for Papua Province (Article 9).
The Rector’s Regulation Number 3 Year 2023, later amended by Rector Regulation Number 4 Year 2023, regarding the Admission of New Students for Undergraduate and Applied Undergraduate Programs at Universitas Gadjah Mada, states that new student admissions are conducted based on the principle of fairness, which ensures open opportunities without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group distinctions, with affirmative action for economically disadvantaged groups (Article 2).
Rector Regulation Number 2 of 2023, later amended by Rector’s Regulation Number 23 Year 2024 on education, states in Article 3:
“(1) The admission of undergraduate and applied undergraduate program students is conducted at the beginning of each academic year in the odd semester through national or independent admission pathways. (2) The admission of master’s, doctoral, applied master’s, and applied doctoral program students can be conducted in both the odd and even semesters through independent admission pathways. (3) UGM may accept transfer students through a mechanism of partial recognition of prior learning outcomes from other higher education institutions or different study programs within UGM.”
Therefore, the admission selection process is open and non-discriminatory.
The policies outlined above align with the Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Strategic Plan 2022-2027 regarding governance that is committed to universal principles: social justice, equality, inclusivity, and sustainability (p. 11, UGM as a campus that upholds unity, diversity, and nationalism).
