For prospective students wishing to take the UGM entrance exams, namely the Independent Entrance Test – Computer Based Test or UM-CBT, the university accommodates headsets and screen reader programs for visually impaired test-takers. By offering these support services during the entrance exams, UGM ensures equitable access to the entrance examination process and fostered an inclusive testing environment for all participants.
The university is committed to fostering an inclusive academic environment that empowers students with disabilities to achieve their full potential. The university actively engages with students with disabilities to identify and address their specific academic support needs. Faculty members are provided with guidance on ensuring the accessibility of learning materials, while academic assistants are available to facilitate the success of students with disabilities.
UGM’s dedication to inclusivity extends to accessible education and services for the entire academic community, staff, and the broader public. This commitment is reflected in inclusive facilities, curriculum integration, and specialized services provided by the Disability Services Unit under the Integrated Service Unit (ULT). Further details on these services are outlined in the Inclusive Campus Handbook, which includes guidelines on etiquette for assisting students with disabilities both inside and outside the classroom, as well as during examinations.
A visually impaired student from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully graduated with cum laude honours, reflecting both academic excellence and an inclusive learning environment. The student reported a smooth academic journey with minimal challenges during their studies.
During examinations, the student was accommodated in a private room and provided with special software to access exam questions. They were able to complete their answers independently by typing on a laptop, demonstrating how inclusive practices and technological support can empower students with disabilities to excel academically.
A visually impaired student from the Social Development and Welfare (PsDK) program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully participated in the university’s Community Service Program (KKN). Despite mobility challenges, the student managed to carry out activities and engage with local communities with support from their fellow KKN team members. One of the key projects undertaken by the student was a socialisation campaign on the importance of waste segregation, along with educational sessions on the KIP Kuliah program and disability awareness. These efforts exemplify how inclusive collaboration enables meaningful contributions to community development initiatives.
