UGM provides affordable housing options for students, ranging from Rp350,000 ($23/month) to Rp650,000 ($42/month), along with housing scholarships. These accommodations are available both on and off campus, subject to specific rules and regulations. Information on how to apply and the facilities offered can be found in the list of boarding and rented rooms in UGM and in the application form for UGM residences. These affordable student dormitories are well known (UGM Student Dormitory and Facilities). One of the benefits of being a resident in the student dormitory is the availability of life skills activities. By participating in these activities, dormitory students not only excel academically but also develop strong UGM character traits, high leadership skills, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility.
In organising life skills activities, the dormitory management is assisted by Student Facilitators. These facilitators, often referred to as “Kakak Fasil,” play an important role as a bridge between dormitory residents and the dormitory management. To compensate for their hard work, a housing Scholarship for Facilitator Students is provided as housing financial aid for these students. If the contract as a life skill facilitator ends, then they are no longer given the privilege to reside in the dormitories.
Free housing is provided through the program of Rumah Zakat Infaq Shodaqoh UGM. It provides a free off-campus dormitory (Women’s Off-Campus Dormitory Scholarship – Wisma Misfallah Thalabul Ilmi), which might include a stipend, depending on the fulfilment of certain applicant requirements.
